<em>Are you ready for some of the biggest unsolved mysteries in the world?!</em></div>
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Sometimes
it is hard to believe that unsolved mysteries still exist in this day
and age. In the last century, humankind has made extraordinary technical
advancements. We have walked on the Moon, uncovered the building blocks
of life itself, DNA, ventured deeper into the oceans than ever before
and invented the self-strirring coffee mug!
However even with our amazing progress as a species there are still
mysteries out there to which the solution eludes us. Here you will find
some of the most puzzling unsolved mysteries in recorded history.
Mysteries such as:</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">

<h2 style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
The Voynich Manuscript</h2>

</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
The
Voynich Manuscript is a manuscript written in the Middle Ages in an
unknown language using an unknown alphabet system. Attempts have been
made to interpret the document for over 100 years, but there hasn’t been
a single breakthrough yet. The Book includes illustrations of plants
(with some of them being unknown to modern bottanists) and astronimocal
information. It is possible that the book is the work of an alchemist
who used codes to keep his discoveries a secret but, untill the book is
decoded, no one knows for certain.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<img alt="One of the biggest unsolved mysteries in the world" class="size-large wp-image-8693 aligncenter" height="430" src="http://www.bizarbin.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/voynich-manuscript-500x430.jpg" title="voynich manuscript" width="500" /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Like
its contents, the history of ownership of the Voynich manuscript is yet
another unsolved mystery. The codex belonged to Emperor Rudolph II of
Germany, who purchased it for 600 gold ducats and believed that it was
the work of Roger Bacon. It is very likely that Emperor Rudolph acquired
the manuscript from the English astrologer John Dee (1527-1608). Dee
apparently owned the manuscript along with a number of other Roger Bacon
manuscripts. In addition, Dee stated that he had 630 ducats in October
1586, and his son noted that Dee, while in Bohemia, owned “a
booke…containing nothing butt Hieroglyphicks, which booke his father
bestowed much time upon: but I could not heare that hee could make it
out.” Emperor Rudolph seems to have given the manuscript to Jacobus
Horcicky de Tepenecz (d. 1622), an exchange based on the inscription
visible only with ultraviolet light on folio 1r which reads: “Jacobi de
Tepenecz.” Johannes Marcus Marci of Cronland presented the book to
Athanasius Kircher (1601-1680) in 1666. In 1912, Wilfred M. Voynich
purchased the manuscript from the Jesuit College at Frascati near Rome.
In 1969, the codex was given to the Beinecke Library by H. P. Kraus, who
had purchased it from the estate of Ethel Voynich, Wilfrid Voynich’s
widow.</div>

The
Bermuda Triangle is a large part of ocean in the North Atlantic that
has been the source of many plain- and boat disappearances. A number of
explanations have been suggested over the years ranging from; time
warps, extreme weather to alien abductions. There is substantial
evidence to show that many of the disappearances have been exaggerated,
but even if those were excluded from the total count, the odds of
vanishing into thin air are higher in the Bermuda Triangle then anywhere
else.</div>

Saint Germain, the Immortal Count</h2>
<div class="wp-caption alignright" id="attachment_8736" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify; width: 310px;">
<img alt="Count st. Germaine, one of the biggest unsolved mysteries of all time" class="size-full wp-image-8736" height="312" src="http://www.bizarbin.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Immortal-Count1.jpg" title="Immortal Count" width="300" /><div class="wp-caption-text">
<em>Was Count St. Germain the real Doctor Who?</em></div>
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Is
it possible for a person to live forever? That is what some people are
claiming about a historical figure known as Count de Saint-Germain. His
origins are still unclear. Some records date his birth to the late
1600s, although some believe that his longevity reaches back to the time
of Christ. He has appeared many times throughout history – even as
recently as the 1970s – always appearing to be about 45 years old. He
was known by many of the most famous figures of European history,
including Casanova, Madame de Pampadour, Voltaire, King Louis XV,
Catherine the Great, Anton Mesmer, George Washington and others. He has
also been linked to a number of occult movements and conspiracy
theories.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Who was this mysterious man? Are the stories of his
immortality mere legend and folklore? Or is it possible that he really
did discover the secret of eternal life?</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
The date of birth for
Saint German is unknown, although most accounts say he was born in the
1690s. A genealogy compiled by Annie Besant for her co-authored book,
The Comte De St. Germain: The Secret of Kings, asserts that he was born
the son of Francis Racoczi II, Prince of Transylvania in 1690. What we
do know for certain is that he was an accomplished alchemist, which
means he could turn heaps of metal into pure gold. If that wasn’t a neat
enough trick already, the count also claimed to have discovered the
secret of eternal life! Between 1740 and 1780 Saint-Germain, who was
quite a celebrity in those days, traveled extensively throughout Europe –
and in all that time never seemed to age. Those who met him were
astonished by his many abilities and peculiarities like:</div>
<ul style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<li>He spoke 12 languages</li>
<li>He could play the violin like a virtuoso.</li>
<li>He was an accomplished painter.</li>
<li>Wherever he traveled, he set up an elaborate laboratory, presumably for his alchemy work.</li>
<li>He
seemed to be a man of great wealth, but was not known to have any bank
accounts. (If it was due to his ability to transmute base metals into
gold, he never performed the feat for observers.)</li>
<li>He dined often
with friends because he enjoyed their company, but was rarely seen to
eat food in public. He subsisted, it was said, on a diet of oatmeal.</li>
<li>He prescribed recipes for the removal of facial wrinkles and for dyeing hair.</li>
<li>He loved jewels, and much of his clothing – including his shoes – were studded with them.</li>
<li>He had perfected a technique for painting jewels.</li>
<li>He
claimed to be able to fuse several small diamonds into one large one.
He also said he could make pearls grow to incredible sizes.</li>
<li>He
has been linked to several secret societies, including the Rosicrucians,
Freemasons, Society of Asiatic Brothers, the Knights of Light, the
Illuminati and Order of the Templars.</li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Officially Saint
Germain died in 1784, but of course dying equals having a bad day, when
your called the “immortal count”. He would continue to be seen
throughout the 19th century and into the 20th century!</div>
<ul style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<li>In
1785 he was seen in Germany with Anton Mesmer, the pioneer hypnotist.
(Some claim that it was Saint-Germain who gave Mesmer the basic ideas
for hypnotism and personal magnetism.)</li>
<li>Official records of Freemasonry show that they chose Saint-Germain as their representative for a convention in 1785.</li>
<li>After
the taking of the Bastille in the French Revolution in 1789, the
Comtesse d’Adhémar said she had a lengthy conversation with Count de
Saint-Germain. He allegedly told her of France’s immediate future, as if
he knew what was to come. In 1821, she wrote: “I have seen
Saint-Germain again, each time to my amazement. I saw him when the queen
[Antoinette] was murdered, on the 18th of Brumaire, on the day
following the death of the Duke d’Enghien, in January, 1815, and on the
eve of the murder of the Duke de Berry.” The last time she saw him was
in 1820 – and each time he looked to be a man no older than his mid-40s.</li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Voltaire, the 18th century philosopher, perhaps best summed up the Count of St. Germain:<br /><blockquote>
this is “a man who never dies, and who knows everything.”</blockquote>
Whether that’s true or not, only history knows.</div>

Jack The Ripper</h2>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Jack
the Ripper has to be the most famous serial killer of all time. He was
the most active in 1888 when he committed his hideous crimes mostly in
the poor Whitechapel area of London. His victims were mostly prostitutes
and in some cases the bodies were found only minutes after Jack the
Ripper left the scene. This was especially creepy considering the Ripper
took his time to mutilate and surgically remove organs from its
victims.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<img alt="Jack the Ripper, the mysterious serial killer" class="size-full wp-image-8672 aligncenter" height="300" src="http://www.bizarbin.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Jack-the-Ripper02.jpg" title="Jack-the-Ripper02" width="580" /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Probably
the biggest reason for the enduring appeal of this bizarre series of
prostitute murders is the name Jack the Ripper. The name is easy to
explain. It was written at the end of a letter which was forwarded it to
the Metropolitan Police on 29 September 1988. The letter began “Dear
Boss……” It went on to speak of ”I am down on whores and I shant quit
ripping them till I do get buckled…”; and went on in similar fashion.
The “trade name” of Jack the Ripper was then made public and ignited
both the imagination and a nation wide panic among the public. None of
the 11 brutal murders were ever solved and to this day, we still don’t
know anything about the identity of this mysterious serial killer and
how many victims he made.</div>

The Taos Hum</h2>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
The
Taos hum is a low-pitched sound that can be heard in various parts of
the world. It is described as sounding like the humming of a
refrigerator. Strangely a lot of people hear the sound and it is known
to drive some people mad, while others don’t hear a thing. The
mysterious sound is also undetectable by microphones or any other
electronic equipment, making it extremely hard to pinpoint the source.
It is most famous for its occurrence in Taos, New Mexico, the town where
this mysterious phenomena got its name from. In 1997, the United States
Congress asked scientists and observers to find the source of the
sound, but they were unable to do so. There are a lot of theories
surrounding the Taos Hum. Some say it has to do with the thin earth
crust in Taos, while others are convinced it has to do with an
alien UFO that crashed eons ago and is now buried deep underground.
Whatever the case may be, it sure must suck to get a good night sleep in
Taos!</div>

The Shroud Of Turin</h2>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
The
Shroud of Turin is allegedly the burial shroud of Jesus Christ, which
bears the image of a crucified man. Despite many scientific
investigations, no explenation excists on how the image could have been
imprented on the cloth. No attempts to replicate the image have been
succesful. Tests date the fabric back to the Middle Ages, but it’s
existence has been known since at least the 4th century, and pollen and
weave testing put in the time of Jesus.</div>

Easter Island Mystery? New Theory Says Giant Statues Rocked<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div dir="ltr" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;" trbidi="on">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="An illustration of ancient Easter Islanders ''walking'' a moai statue with ropes." height="311" src="http://images.nationalgeographic.com/wpf/media-live/photos/000/554/cache/easter-island-statues-moved-by-rocking_55437_600x450.jpg" width="600" /><b> </b></div>
<br />
<b>For centuries, scientists have tried to solve the mystery of how the colossal stone statues of Easter Island moved. Now there's a new theory—and it rocks.</b><br />
The multiton behemoths traveled up to 11 miles (18 kilometers) from
the quarry where most of them were carved, without the benefit of
wheels, cranes, or even large animals.<br />
Scientists have tested many ideas in the past, figuring that the
islanders must have used a combination of log rollers, ropes, and wooden
sledges. Now a pair of archaeologists have come up with a new theory:
Perhaps the statues, known as <i>moai,</i> were "engineered to move" upright in a rocking motion, using only manpower and rope.<br />
<i>Watch video: Easter Island statues rocking forward</i></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Terry Hunt of the University of Hawaii and Carl Lipo
of California State University Long Beach have worked closely with
archaeologist Sergio Rapu, who's part of the South Pacific island's
population of indigenous Rapanui, to develop their idea. They've
observed that fat bellies allowed the statues to be tilted forward
easily, and heavy, D-shaped bases could have allowed handlers to roll
and rock the moai side to side.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Last year, in experiments funded by the National Geographic Society's Expeditions Council,
Hunt and Lipo showed that as few as 18 people could, with three strong
ropes and a bit of practice, easily and relatively quickly maneuver a
ten-foot (three-meter), five-ton moai replica a few hundred yards (a few
hundred meters). No logs were required. (National Geographic News is a
division of the Society.)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
In previous efforts to solve the mystery, Czech engineer Pavel Pavel
worked with Norwegian explorer-adventurer Thor Heyerdahl and a team of
17 helpers to propel an upright, 13-foot (4-meter), nine-ton moai
forward with twisting motions, keeping the statue fully upright at all
times. That was in 1986. But Pavel's team damaged the moai's base and
had to stop. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
A year later U.S. archaeologist Charles Love and a team of 25 erected
a 13-foot (4-meter), nine-ton model upright on a wooden sledge and
moved it over log rollers, advancing it 148 feet (45 meters) in two
minutes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Meanwhile, for many of Easter Island's 2,000 or so indigenous
Rapanui, descended from the original Polynesian settlers, the answer is
simple. "We know the truth," says Suri Tuki, 25, a tour guide. "The
statues walked."</div>

into the bedroom and there my husband was in the bed, so I thought we
had a burglar.” </em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Jim searched the house: </div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“There was no evidence of any
entry, or of anyone having been in the house. So I thought perhaps Kay
had just been using an overactive imagination.” </em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Shortly after the incident, Kay began to suspect that it may have not been an actual living person at all:</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“I had fear, and I was perplexed
about what happened. And while I was tossing and turning, I suddenly
remembered that I didn’t hear any sound as he passed me. I still am
unable to figure out why it happened.” </em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="style12" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div align="center">
<img height="168" src="http://www.unsolved.com/images/cases/gho_tatum_family4.jpg" width="250" /><strong><br />
She said the drill was off, but it made noise </strong></div>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Two months passed without further incident.
Then, one night in March, Jim was working upstairs on the house. He
stopped when Kay called him down to dinner, and, as usual, made sure to
unplug his drill. As the evening wore on, Jim decided to watch a movie,
while Kay went upstairs to read. One hour later, Kay heard the sound of
the drill outside her room. She assumed Jim was teasing her about having
seen a ghost. But before long, she felt the joke had gone on long
enough. But when she got to the hallway, it was empty, and the drill was
unplugged. Kay Tatum:</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“I was really frightened and I reached down and felt on it and it was ice cold. It had not been turned on.”</em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Now, Jim too started to believe something strange might be occurring:</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“I was very confused, too. I knew
very well that something was happening because Kay is very
level-headed. And she was truly frightened.”</em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
The strange events continued. One night, Kay
heard the sound of coins falling in a bowl. But she was alone in the
room. Another time, while cooking, Kay felt two sharp tugs on her
blouse: </div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“After that incident, I decided
we had a problem in this house. There was something going on. It wasn’t
something that we could understand or explain, but there was something
definitely going on.” </em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="style11" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div align="center">
<img height="168" src="http://www.unsolved.com/images/cases/gho_tatum_family5.jpg" width="250" /><strong><br />
Did a small bell ring on its own?</strong></div>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
The occurrences all seemed to center around
Kay. Terrified by what was happening in their house, Jim and Kay turned
to an expert for help, parapsychologist William Roll:</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“The question comes up, why is
this family having these experiences? Is there some sort of ghost that
has come back to haunt them for some unknown reason? What’s taking
place? A lot of people have these experiences. It’s part of who we are
as humans, to have these so-called psychic experiences.” </em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Dr. Roll believes that memories can actually
be transferred to physical objects. These residual memories can be
triggered by ordinary people. </div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
It wasn’t long before Jim finally had his
first strange experience. It started with a small bell. An early riser,
Jim always got up hours before Kay. When Kay woke up, she would ring the
bell if she needed anything upstairs. One day, Jim heard what he
assumed was Kay ringing the bell:</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“I’d grown used to climbing the
stairs after hearing the bell. And so I did so, and it wasn’t Kay. She
was asleep. So I went in and looked at the bell, and it was there. I
obviously heard something else, other than the bell.” </em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
After the third time this happened, the
Tatum’s decided to make up a code in order to outwit the entity. Kay
would ring the bell three times if she wanted Jim to come upstairs. One
morning Jim heard the call:</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“It rang three times. I knew this
was Kay, because this was our signal, but Kay was sound asleep. And the
bell was in the other bedroom, where it stays. I went in and looked at
it. I turned around and walked out the door, and the thing rang again!
So, I began to, to see how Kay felt. I was frightened. My hair stood up
on my neck. I told Kay then, no more bell. I’m not going to answer that
bell anymore. And that bell has not rung since.”</em> </div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
William Roll is no stranger to these types of incidents:</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<em>“There are a number of haunting
cases that are not very striking, not very strong, but where the
phenomenon is, nevertheless, quite disturbing to the family. It might be
a bell ringing, a fleeting glimpse of an apparition. The events are
trivial, but they’re deeply upsetting to the family because they don’t
fit into the picture that most of us have of the world. And that image
of the physical world, particularly of our home, is intricately related
to who we picture ourselves as being.” </em></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
</span><span class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In the end, things got so bad that the Tatum’s moved out of their home and put it up for sale. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b><i>unsolved mystery</i></b> - It began with the Mayan calendar - a startling astrological artifact
that reaches its end point in the year 2012. As major spiritual
traditions, independent researchers, and archaeological findings all
point toward this date as a critical moment in human history, readers
everywhere are starting to ask the same question: What will happen in
2012? For the first time, the leading authorities on the 2012 phenomenon
are all given voice in a single book: 2012 - An invaluable resource for
readers who want to learn more about this time of change, this
fascinating book features essays from dozens of prominent thinkers,
including: Gregg Braden's examination of the scientific evidence for a
shift in the earth's magnetic field - and how it will affect all life;
Barbara Marx Hubbard's and Peter Russell's explorations of the
"accelerating pace of evolution" - why we may literally be transforming
into a new species; John Major Jenkins' journey to the source for
answers: the original Mayan calendar.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I've watched many documentaries concerning the 2012 phenomenon and am
very interested in the history and the science of all of it. I'm not too
interested in the new-age stuff. Hence, my 3 star review...</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I
got this book expecting more of the history and the science. There are
several chapters that discuss the history of the Mayan calendar and the
various other historical societies that have pointed to the date of
12/21/2012. There are a few chapters that cover the science of the
galactic alignment and the movement of the heavenly bodies through space
and time. All of these I found to be very interesting and informative.</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The
majority of the book covers the warm-and-fuzzies of this approaching
date; the "oneness" of mankind, the universal love type view of what we
can do to make the date a good thing. Problem is, we don't know that the
date will be bad. I'm not a "new-age" kind of guy, but I don't mind
reading about it. These sections were interesting if not somewhat off
the mark for me personally.</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Still, the read was interesting on
the whole and I can recommend it to anyone that has a genuine interest
in the 2012 period of history. Don't expect any physics or major
historical explanations, but you can expect to be informed from every
angle.</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I think, in the end, the fact that this book really does
take the time to view this coming date from every angle, every viewpoint
from the physical to the spiritual to the historical, that I lean
toward a higher rating becuase, at the least, it is fair in providing a
fair and balanced look at the topic.</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">But, if all you want is the
history or the scientific, keep on looking; trust me, you don't want to
wade through the "fluff" for the few facts.</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Good luck!</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I have
since read The 2012 Story by John Major Jenkins and would recommend this
read to those who want the history, archaeology, astronomy (without the
hocum) and science behind the date. This is a much more throrough,
although somewhat slanted by the author's opinion (but not so much so
that it ruins the book), look at the "practical" story of the Mayans and
their calendar. Enjoy!

<b><b><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, Times, serif;"><b><i>Unsolved mystery - I have grasped the stake... I take the measuring cord in the company of

<br />
The above text is an inscription from the Temple of Horus at Edfu
accompanying
the relief showing "Stretching the Cord" Ceremony.<br />
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, Times, serif;">
<b>
<div align="center">
<img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.world-mysteries.com/alignments/cord.jpg" width="402" /></div>
<div align="center">
<i>The Pharaoh and the Goddess Seshat, planting stakes linked
by <br />
a looped rope, participate in the 'Stretching the Cord' ceremony.</i></div>
</b>
</span>
A Great Circle drawn through the celestial poles divides the sky, marking out
a point on the celestial equator from which measurement can begin. This is what
is meant by 'Stretching the Cord', creating the first path across the trackless
waste.<br />
<br />
The Mayan celebration of the establishment of creation is a description of
the process of surveying the world: <br />
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, Times, serif;">
<b>
<b><i>'Great is the recital, the history of the time when all the
corners of the sky and earth were completed, and the quadrangulation,
its measure, the four points, the measuring of the corners, the
measuring of the lines, in heaven, in earth, at the four corners'
</i></b>(From the Mayan text of The Popul Vuh) <br />
</b>
A more recent translation makes this even clearer;
<b> <i>'The fourfold siding, fourfold cornering, measuring, fourfold
staking, halving the cord, stretching the cord in the sky, on the earth,
/ the four sides, the four corners as it is said '</i><br />
</b><br />
<b>
</b>
The pillars which support the sky are to be regarded as benchmarks, boundary
stones put down to enable an order to be imposed upon chaos, and a measure to be
made of the earth. However, it should be apparent after all this discussion of
the 'corners of the earth', that it is not the earth we walk about on that is of
concern here. This particular 'earth' is not only square but flat. Exactly what
this means will soon become clear. We should recall that it is the matter of
Time that is being measured in this surveying process. This is the process that
the prophet Enoch describes when, during his vision he asks his guide to explain
the actions of the angels they see:
<b>
<br />
</b><br />
<b>
<b><i>'Wherefore have they taken those long ropes and gone forth? He said 'They are
gone forth to measure. These measures shall reveal all the secrets of the depths
of the earth'</i> </b>(Book of Enoch ch. LX v. 2-6)
<br />
<br />
</b>
The process these Angels were going forth to conduct must have been similar
to that ceremony which in Egypt was known as 'stretching the rope' and which
accompanied the commencement of any building project, thus relating its
construction to the original founding of the earth.<br />
<br />
In the Old Testament Book of Job, God challenges Job to answer:<b><br />
</b><br />
<b>
<b><i>'Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? ..Who decided the
dimensions of it... or who stretched the measuring line across it? What supports
its pillars at their bases?</i></b> (Jerusalem Bible tr.)'<br />
<br />
</b>
This process of surveying the foundations of creation reappears in the verses
of the Rig Veda which tell how Varuna made fast the earth and heaven, and here
we are told specifically that he did so by using the sun as a measure, and as a
commentary on these verses points out, 'we must take this measure as a measuring
line'.
<br />
As if to emphasise the importance of this role of surveying, the Chinese
deities responsible for creation come equipped with compass and plumbline.<br />
<br />
What all this means is that the 'bindings' which hold heaven and earth
together are to be taken also as plumblines which stretch out the measures of
creation across the circle of the stars. It is a particular state of order that
is being held fast.
<br />
<br />
Representations of the cosmos constructed in this way appear again and again,
often in unlikely places.
<br />
An elemental one is the rectilinear cross which
appears on the English flag ( the Royal Orb is a more complete image, including
as it does the spherical universe bounded by the cross). Another more detailed
example from China comes in the form of a series of mirrors known as the TVL
mirrors, because of their decorative patterns, described as follows:
<b>
<br />
</b><br />
<b>
<i>'The four T's that stand around the square earth are the four cardinal
points. These lie at the extremities of the two cosmic lines or ropes which
cross the universe and hold it together; the T's comprise a vertical prop which
supports a horizontal beam; the four V's mark the four corners of heaven. The
four L's represent devices used by carpenters to set a straight line...thus they
symbolize the ends of the two cosmic lines as if they had been drawn with the
help of such an instrument.' <br />

<i>Bronze Mirror, 7th Century<br />
</i></div>
</b>
For the Maya people today this kind of creation is still repeated as part of
ceremonies to restore the correct balance of the world. David Freidel describes
a ceremony he witnessed to bring to an end a prolonged drought. The officiant
(referred to as h-men, 'a do-er') constructed an altar known as a 'sky-tree'. A
table is overarched by four saplings bent to intersect above its centre. From
this intersection is hung a circular platform referred to as the 'the
sky-platform' .<br />
<br />
'Sturdy vines of a kind called xtab ka'anil, 'the 'cords of the sky',
completed the arches to form the 'sky tree'. In the Yukatek language, the words
for 'sky' and the number 'four' are near homophones and frequently substitute
for each other in the ancient writing system'. <br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><i>Hermes Trismegistus </i></span><br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Vision of Hermes</span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It chanced once on a time, while I was meditating on the things
that are, my thought was raised to a great height, yet my bodily
senses had been put under restraint as in sleep, though not such
sleep as that of men weighed down by fullness of food or bodily
weariness. Methought a Being more than vast, in size beyond all
bounds, called out my name and said:</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"What would you hear and see, and what
have you in mind to learn and know?"</i> </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"Who are you?" said I.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"I am the Pymander, Divine Mind of the
Sovereignity, the Shepherd of Men. I know what you desire, and I am
with you everywhere." </i></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"I long to learn the things that are, " I replied, "and
comprehend their nature, and know God. This is what I desire to
hear." <br /><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"Hold in your mind all you would know," the
Shepherd answered back to me, "and I will teach you."</i></span></span>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Above and the Below</span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Forthwith all things changed in aspect before me and were opened
out in an instant. And I beheld a boundless view: all was changed
into Light, a mild and joyous Light; and I marveled when I saw it.
And in a little while, there came to be in one part a
downward-tending darkness, terrible and grim, and methought it like
unto a snake. And thereafter I saw the darkness changing into a
Watery Substance, which was unspeakably tossed about. Coiling in
sinuous folds, it gave forth smoke as from fire; and I heard it
making an indescribable sound of lamentation, for there was sent
forth from it an inarticulate Cry. But from the Light there came
forth a holy Speech, which took its stand upon the Watery Substance,
and methought this Word was the voice of the Light. And the Divine
Mind spoke for me to hear: </span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"That Light is I, even the One Mind, the
first God, who was before the Watery Substance that appeared out of
Darkness, and the Word which came forth from the Light is son of
God. Learn my meaning by looking at what you yourself have in you,
for in you too, the Word is son, and Mind the father of the Word.
They are not separate one from the other, for Life is the union of
Word and Mind. Now fix your thought upon the Light and learn to know
it."</i></span></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I saw in my mind that the Light consisted of innumerable Powers
and had come to be an ordered world, but a world without the bounds
of material existence. This I perceived in thought, seeing it by
reason of the words that the Divine Mind had spoken to me. And when
I was amazed, he spoke again to me: </span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"You have seen in your mind the
archetypal form, which is prior to the beginning of things and is
limitless." </i></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The First Emanation: Descent of the Logos</span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"But tell me," I asked. "Whence did the elements of nature come
into being?" </span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"They issued from God’s Purpose,"</i></span>
came the answer,<span style="color: #6600ff;"><i> "which beheld that
beauteous world and copied it. The Watery Substance, the One Thing,
having received the Word, was fashioned into an ordered world, the
elements being separated out from it. And from the elements came
forth the brood of living creatures. And the One Mind, that Mind of
Life and Light, being male and female both, gave birth to another
Mind, which was a maker of things; and this made out of the elements
Seven Planetary Administrators who encompass with their orbits the
world perceived by sense; and their administration is called Fate."</i></span></span><br />
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Second Emanation: Mind the Maker<br /></span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"And forthwith, the Word of God leapt up
from the downward-tending elements of Nature to the pure body of the
highest Sphere that had already existed and united with Mind the
Maker, for the Word was of one substance with that mind too. And the
downward-tending elements of Nature were left devoid of reason, so
as to be mere matter.</i></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"Then Mind the Maker united with Reason,
and He who surrounds the Spheres and spins them with His whirl, set
turning His formations, and let them turn from a beginning boundless
unto an endless end. For the circulation of these Spheres begins
where it does end in a circle, as Mind does will. And from the
downward-tending elements Nature brought forth lives without reason;
for He did not extend Reason (the Logos) to them. The Air brought
forth things winged; the Water things that swim, and in the Watery
Substance, Earth-and-Water one from another were separated, as Mind
the Maker willed. And from her bosom, Nature produced living things,
four-footed animals and reptiles, beasts wild and tame.</i></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Third Emanation: The Descent of Man<br /></span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"But the One Mind, being both Life and
Light, next brought forth Man, a Being like to Himself, with whom He
fell in love, as being His own child; for it was beautiful beyond
compare, the Image of its Sire. In very truth, God fell in love with
His own Form; and on it did bestow all of His own creations. And
when Man gazed upon what Mind the Maker had created in the region of
Fire, he too wished to create and so assent was given him by the
Father. Changing his state to the formative Sphere, where he was to
have his whole authority, Man had in himself all the workings of the
archetypal Administrators. Likewise, they fell in love with him, and
each gave him a share of their own ordering. And after that, Man had
well learned their essence and had become a sharer in their nature.
Man then had a mind to break right through the boundary of their
Spheres, and to subdue the might of that which pressed upon the
Fire.</i></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"So he who had the whole authority,
having learned the being of the Administrators, willed to break
through the Spheres and showed to downward-tending Nature God's fair
Form. And when Nature saw that Form of beauty that can never
satiate, and Man who now possessed within himself each single energy
of all Seven Administrators as well as God's own Form, she smiled
with love; for it was as though she had seen the image of God's
fairest form upon her Water, His shadow on her Earth.</i></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"He in His turn beholding the Form like
to Himself, existing in her, in her Water, loved it and willed to
live in it; and with the will came actuality, and so Man vivified
the Form devoid of reason. And Nature took the object of her love
and wound herself completely round him, and they were intermingled,
for they were lovers. And this is why beyond all creatures on the
earth, Man is twofold: mortal because of body, but because of his
essential Eternal Substance, immortal. Though deathless and
possessed of sway over all, yet does Man suffer as a mortal does,
subject to Fate. Thus, though his true nature is above the Spheres,
within the Spheres he has become a slave. Though male-female, he is
from a male-female Mind; and though he is sleepless from a sleepless
Sire, yet is he overcome by sleep.</i></span><br /><br /></span>
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The First Men<br /></span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Thereon I say: "Teach on, Oh Divine Mind of me, for I myself as
well am amorous of the Word." </span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And the Shepherd said: <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"This is the
mystery kept hid until this day: Nature embraced by Man brought
forth a wonder, oh so wonderful. For as he had the nature of the
Concord of the Seven, who, as I said to you, were made of Fire and
Spirit. Nature did not delay but immediately brought forth seven
men, in correspondence with the natures of the Seven Administrators,
male-female were they and moving in the air."</i></span></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"0h Shepherd, " I said, "for now I'm filled with great desire and
long to hear; do not run off!"</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"Keep silence,"</i></span> said the
Shepherd, <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"for not as you have I unrolled
for you the first discourse."</i></span></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"Lo! I am still," said I.</span><br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">To Increase and Multiply</span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"In such wise then,"</i></span> the
Shepherd continued, <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"the generation of
these Seven came to pass. Earth was as woman, her Water filled with
longing; ripeness she took from Fire, spirit from Ether. Nature thus
brought forth frames to suit the Form of Man. And Man from Life and
Light changed into soul and mind -- from Life to soul, from Light to
mind. And thus continued all the sense-world pairings until the
period of their end and a new beginning arrived. <br />
Now listen to the rest of the discourse that you long to hear: The
period being ended, the bond that bound them all was loosened by
God's Will. For all the animals being male-female, at the same time
with Man were loosed apart; some became male, some in like fashion
female. And straightaway, God spoke by His Holy Word (the Logos):
'Increase you in increasing, and multiply in multitude, you
creatures and creations all; and Man that had Mind in him, let him
learn to know that he himself is deathless and the cause of death is
love, though Love is All.' When He said this, His forethought did by
means of Fate and the Spheres effect their couplings and their
generations founded. And so all things were multiplied according to
their kind. And he who thus had learned to know himself, had reached
that Good that does transcend abundance; but he who through worldly
love that same end leads astray, he expends his love upon his body
-- he stays in Darkness -- and suffering through his senses the
things of Death."</i></span><br /><br /></span>
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Way of Deathlessness</span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"What is the fault so great the ignorant commit," I asked, "that
they should be deprived of deathlessness?"</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"You seem,"</i></span> the Shepherd
cautioned, <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"not to have given heed to what
you have heard. Did not I bid you think?" </i></span></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"Yes, do I think, and I remember," I said, "and therefore give
you thanks!"</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"If you did truly think thereon," </i>
</span>said the Shepherd, <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"tell me: Why do
they merit death who are in ignorance?"</i></span></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"It is because the gloomy Darkness is the root and base of the
material frame; from it came the Watery Substance from which the
body in the sense-world is composed; and from this body of Death and
Darkness does the Water drain."</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"Right is your thought,"</i></span> He
said. <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"But how does 'he who knows himself,
go unto Him,' as God's Word had declared?"</i></span></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And I reply: "The Father of the universals consists of Light and
Life, and from Him, Man was born."</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"You are right! Light and Life is the
Divine Mind, and from it Man was born. If then you know that you are
yourself of Life and Light, and that you are made of them, you shall
return to Life and Light."</i></span> Thus did the Shepherd speak.</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"But tell me further, Mind of me," I cried out, "How shall I come
to Life again, for God does say 'the man who had Mind in him, let
him learn to know that he himself is deathless.' Have not all men
then Mind?"</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"Again you speak well! I, Divine Mind,
myself am present with holy men and good, the pure and merciful men
who live piously. To such my presence becomes an aid, and
straightway they gain Gnosis of all things, and win their Father's
love by their pure lives, and give Him thanks, invoking on Him
blessings and entering his Kingdom, intent on Him with ardent love.
And before they give the body up unto its proper death, they turn
from their bodies with disgust from its sensations, from knowledge
of what things they operate. Nay, it is I, the Divine Mind, that
will not let the operations that befall the body work to their
natural end. For being the gatekeeper, I close up all the entrances,
and bar the entrance of the base and evil workings of the senses,
cutting off all thoughts of them. But to the Mindless ones, the
wicked and depraved, the envious and covetous, and murderous and
impious, I keep far aloof, yielding my place to the Avenging Daimon,
who sharpening the fire, torments them and adds fire to fire upon
them, and rushes on them through their senses, thus rendering them
the readier for their transgressions of the law, so that they meet
with greater torment. Nor do they ever cease to have desire for
their appetites inordinate, insatiably striving in the Darkness."</i></span><br /><br /></span>
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Ascent of the Soul to the Eighth Sphere<br /></span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">"Full well have you taught me all, as I desired, 0h Divine Mind.
And now, <br />
" I beseeched Him, "pray tell me further of the nature of the way to
the Life Above."</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">To this, the Shepherd replied: <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"When
your material body is to be dissolved, first you surrender the body
by itself unto the work of Transformation, and thus the form you had
vanishes, and you surrender your way of life, void of its energy,
back to its own nature. The body's senses next pass back into their
sources, becoming separate, and resurrect as new energies; and
passion and desire too withdraw unto that nature that is void of
reason. And thus it is that man does speed his way thereafter
upwards through the Spheres."</i></span></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">He continued: <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"To the first zone he
gives the energy of growth and waning; unto the second zone, the
devices of evil now de-energized; unto the third, the guile of the
desires de-energized; unto the fourth, his domineering arrogance,
also de-energized; unto the fifth, unholy daring and the rashness of
audacity, de-energized; unto the sixth, striving for wealth by evil
means, deprived of its aggrandizement; and to the seventh zone,
ensnaring falsehood, de-energized. And then, with all the
energizings of the Spheres stripped from him, clothed in his proper
Power, he comes to that nature that belongs unto the Eighth, and
there with Those-That-Are is the One Mind. They who are there
welcome his coming with joy; and he, made like to them that sojourn
there, does further hear the Powers who are above the substance of
the Eighth Sphere, singing their praise to God in a language of
their own. And then they, in a band, go to the Father's home; of
their own selves they make surrender of themselves to the Powers,
and thus becoming Powers themselves they are in God. This the good
end for those who have gained Gnosis -- to be made one with God."</i></span><br /><br /></span>
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Thrice-Greatest Hermes</span>
</h4>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"Why should you then delay?"</i></span>
the Shepherd asked me. <span style="color: #6600ff;"><i>"Must it not be,
since you have received all, that you should point the way to the
world, that through you the race of mankind may by your God be
saved?" <br />
</i></span>And after he said this, the Shepherd of Men mingled again
with the Powers. </span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">But I, with thanks and blessings unto the Father of the universal
Powers, was now freed, full of the power the Shepherd had poured
into me, and full of what he had taught me about the nature of All
and of the loftiest Vision. And I inscribed in my memory the
benefaction of the Divine Mind, and I was exceedingly glad, for I
was full with that for which I craved. My bodily sleep had come to
be my soul's wakefulness; and the closing of my eyes, true vision;
and my silence, pregnant with good; and my barrenness of speech, a
brood of holy thoughts. Becoming God-inspired, I attained the abode
of Truth." </span><br />

<h3>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Life and Teachings of Thoth Hermes Trismegistus</span></h3>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">THUNDER rolled, lightning flashed, the veil of the Temple was
rent from top to bottom. The venerable initiator, in his robes of
blue and gold, slowly raised his jeweled wand and pointed with it
into the darkness revealed by the tearing of the silken curtain:
"Behold the Light of Egypt! " </span><br />
<div align="center">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><i>A GREEK FORM OF HERMES.<br />
From Bryant's Mythology.</i></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The candidate, in his plain white robe, gazed into the utter
blackness framed by the two great Lotus-headed columns between which
the veil had hung. As he watched, a luminous haze distributed itself
throughout the atmosphere until the air was a mass of shining
particles. The face of the neophyte was illumined by the soft glow
as he scanned the shimmering cloud for some tangible object. The
initiator spoke again: "This Light which ye behold is the secret
luminance of the Mysteries. Whence it comes none knoweth, save the
'Master of the Light.' Behold Him!" Suddenly, through the gleaming
mist a figure appeared, surrounded by a flickering greenish sheen.
The initiator lowered his wand and, bowing his head, placed one hand
edgewise against his breast in humble salutation. The neophyte
stepped back in awe, partly blinded by the glory of the revealed
figure. Gaining courage, the youth gazed again at the Divine One.
The Form before him was considerably larger than that of a mortal
man. The body seemed partly transparent so that the heart and brain
could be seen pulsating and radiant. As the candidate watched, the
heart changed into an ibis, and the brain into a flashing emerald.
In Its hand this mysterious Being bore a winged rod, entwined with
serpents. The aged initiator, raising his wand, cried out in a loud
voice: "All hail Thee, Thoth Hermes, Thrice Greatest; all hail Thee,
Prince of Men; all hail Thee who standeth upon the head of Typhon!"
At the same instant a lurid writhing dragon appeared--a hideous
monster, part serpent, part crocodile, and part hog. From its mouth
and nostrils poured sheets of flame and horrible sounds echoed
through the vaulted chambers. Suddenly Hermes struck the advancing
reptile with the serpent-wound staff and with snarling cry the
dragon fell over upon its side, while the flames about it slowly
died away. Hermes placed His foot upon the skull of the vanquished
Typhon. The next instant, with a blaze of unbearable glory that sent
the neophyte staggering backward against a pillar, the immortal
Hermes, followed by streamers of greenish mist, passed through the
chamber and faded into nothingness.</span><br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b><i>Unsolved mystery</i></b> - Based on the evidence of the calligraphy, the
drawings, the vellum, and the pigments, Wilfrid Voynich estimated
that the Manuscript was created in the late 13th century. The
manuscript is small, seven by ten inches, but thick, nearly 235
pages. It is written in an unknown script of which there is no known
other instance in the world. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Voynich Manuscript is considered to be 'The Most Mysterious
Manuscript in the World'. To this day this medieval artifact resists all efforts at
translation. It is either an ingenious hoax or an unbreakable
cipher. The manuscript is named after its discoverer, the
American antique book dealer and collector, Wilfrid M. Voynich, who
discovered it in 1912, amongst a collection of ancient manuscripts
kept in villa Mondragone in Frascati, near Rome, which had been by
then turned into a Jesuit College (closed in 1953).</span></div>

His modern followers see him as a prophet. His prophecies have a magical quality for those who study them: they are muddled and obscure before the predicted event, but become crystal clear after the event has occurred.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Prophetic vision of Nostradamus is contained in 942 cryptic poems called The Centuries. Nostradamus wrote four-line verses (quatrains) in groups of 100 (called centuries). They have enthralled generation after generation of readers. He was often referred to as the prophet of doom because of the visions he had involving death and war. His followers say he predicted the Great Fire of London (1666), the French Revolution, the birth and rise to power of Hitler, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the destruction of the space shuttle Challenger.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><h3 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=8789575378342551047" name="Biography">Biography</a></span></h3><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1503</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Michel de Nostradame was born on December 14, 1503 (11 years after Christopher Columbus discovered the New World) in St. Remy, Provence, France. Nostradamus came from a long line of Jewish doctors and scholars. His family had converted from Judaism to Christianity in 1502, as a result of persecution on the ascension of Louis the XII (it was the age of the Inquisition).</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Nostradamus was the oldest son, and had four brothers; of the first three we know little; the youngest, Jean, became Procureur of the Parliament of the Provence. His father, James, was a notary. Nostradamus' grandfather, Jean, inspired him to study astrology and the celestial sciences when he was very young. It was then that Nostradamus was introduced to Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Mathematics, Astronomy and Astrology. He upheld the Copernican theory that the world was round and circled around the sun more than 100 years before Galileo was prosecuted for the same belief.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1522</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In 1522, at the age of nineteen, Nostradamus decided to study medicine and enrolled at Mont Pellier (the most famous school of medicine in France). He graduated with a bachelor degree and was soon licensed to practice medicine. As a healer, he was active in treating the victims of the "Black Plague" and developed unique and effective methods of treatment which helped to lessen the suffering of many people. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1529</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On 23rd October 1529, at 26, Nostradamus returned to Mont Pellier to complete his Doctor's degree. The academic skill he displayed while working towards his doctorate won him praise and admiration from the whole college. He was recruited as an instructor after his graduation and taught for about a year. Nostradamus had some trouble in explaining his unorthodox remedies and treatments he used in the countryside. Nevertheless his learning and ability could not be denied and he obtained his doctorate. He remained teaching at Montpellier for a year but by this time his new theories, for instance his refusal to bleed patients, were causing trouble and he set off upon another spate of wandering.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b> 1534 </b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">While practising in Toulouse he received a letter from Julius-Cesar Scaliger, the philosopher considered second only to Erasmus throughout Europe. Apparently Nostradamus' reply so pleased Scaliger that he invited him to stay at his home in Agen. This life suited Nostradamus admirably, and circa 1534 he married a young girl 'of high estate, very beautiful and admirable', whose name was lost to us. He had a son and a daughter by her and his life seemed complete. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1538</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Then a series of tragedies struck. The plague came to Agen and, despite all his efforts, killed Nostradamus' wife and two children. The fact that he was unable to save his own family had a disastrous effect on his practice. The he quarrelled with Scaliger and lost his friendship. His late wife's family tried to sue him for the return of her dowry and as the final straw, in 1538, he was accused of heresy because of a chance remark made some years before. To a workman casting a bronze statue of the Virgin, Nostradamus had commented that he was making devils. His plea that he was only describing the lack of aestheticappeal inherent in the statue was ignored and the Inquisitors sent for him to go to Toulouse.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Nostradamus, having no wish to stand trial, set out on his wandering again and kept well clear of the Church authorities for the next six years. We know little of this period. From references in later books we know he travelled in the Lorraine and went to Venice and Sicily. Legends about Nostradamus' prophetic powers also start to appear at this time.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1546</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Over time, circumstances reversed with the Inquisitors. After traveling through Italy and France for six years, Nostradamus returned to his native turf where he was employed by the city of Aix in 1546. For a period of three years he again fought the plague. His services were viewed as invaluable by both his patients and his peers. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1554</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">By 1554 Nostradamus had settled in Marseilles. In November that year, the Provence experienced one of the worst floods of its history. The plague redoubled in virulence, spread by the waters and the polluted corpses. Nostradamus worked ceaselessly. Once the city had recovered, Nostradamus moved on to Salon de Croux, which he found so pleasant a town that he determined to settle there for the rest of his life. In November he married Anne Ponsart Gemelle, a rich widow. The house in which he spent the remainder of his days can still be seen off the Place de la Poissonnerie. It was during this period of his life that he acquainted himself with the apothecaries and healers of the area in order to include them in his book Traite des Fardmens, the world's first medical directory, which listed the names, location and specialties of physicians and healers practicing in Europe.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Nostradamus began to write his prophetic verses in the city of Salon, in 1554. They are divided into ten sections called Centuries (which refers to the number of verses in each section, not to a unit of 100 years). </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1555</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> The Centuries were published in 1555 and 1558, and have been in print continuously ever since.<br />
By 1555 Nostradamus had finished the first phase of his book that would contain his prophecies. Upon its publication, Nostradamus' fame quickly spread throughout Europe. The book contained only the first three Centuries and part of the fourth. His book became very popular among the literate and educated Europeans of the day, so much so that the French Queen, Catherine de' Medici, summoned Nostradamus to her court in Paris in 1556.. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">One could only wish that there had been a witness to record their meeting. Nostradamus and the Queen spoke together for two hours. She is reputed to have asked him about the quatrain concerning the king's death and to have been satisfied with Nostradamus' answer. Certainly she continued to believe in Nostradamus' predictions until her death. The king, Henri II, granted Nostradamus only a brief audience and was obviously not greatly interested.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Two weeks later the queen sent for him a second time and now Nostradamus was faced with the delicate and difficult task of drawing up the horoscopes of the seven Valois children, whose tragic fates he had already revealed in the centuries. All he would tell Catherine was that all of her sons would be kings, which is slightly inaccurate since one of them, Francois, died before he could inherit.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Soon afterwards Nostradamus was warned that the Justices of Paris were inquiring about his magic practices, and he swiftly returned to Salon. From this time on, suffering from gout and arthritis, he seems to have done little except draw up horoscopes for his many distinguished visitors and complete the writing of the Prophecies. Apparently he allowed a few manuscript copies to criculate before publication, because many of the predictions were understood and quoted before the completed book came off the printing press in 1568, two years after his death.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1559</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On June 28, 1559, quatrain # 1-35 which predicted the accidental death of an "old lion" (an allusion to Henri -- the King of France) came true. Some people were upset with Nostradamus, others amazed. His fame grew even more. Nostradamus remained in Salon for a number of years, and continued to work on his writings. He was visited by many people of nobility and distinction during those days.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1564</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In 1564 Catherine, now Queen Regent, decided to make a Royal Progress through France. While travelling she came to Salon and visited Nostradamus. They dined and Catherine gave Nostradamus the title of Physician in Ordinary, which carried with it a salary and other benefits.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><b>1565-66</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In 1565-66, Nostradamus' health began to be troubled with gout and arthritis. His health continued to worsen and he wrote his will on June 17, 1566. Nostradamus is said to have predicted his own death. When his assistant wished him goodnight on July 1, 1566, Nostradamus reputedly pronounced, "You will not find me alive at sunrise." He was found dead on July 2, 1566.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It was rumored that a very secret document existed in his coffin, that would decode his prophecies. In 1700, the coffin was moved to a prominent wall of the Church. Careful not to disturb his body a quick look inside revealed an amulet on his skeleton, with the year 1700 on it. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> One night in 1791 during the French Revolution, soldiers from Marseilles broke into the church, in search of loot. However, Nostradamus had the last laugh. In Century 9, Quatrain 7, he had written:</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><blockquote><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><i>The man who opens the tomb when it is found<br />
And who does not close it immediately,<br />
Evil will come to him<br />
That no one will be able to prove.</i></span> </blockquote></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Reputedly, the soldiers who desecrated his tomb for the final time were ambushed by Royalists on their way back to base and killed to the last man. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><i>View online <a href="http://www.sacred-texts.com/nos/index.htm" target="_blank">The Centuries</a> or consider getting some of many <a href="http://www.world-mysteries.com/awr_5.htm#Books%20and%20Video"> books</a> written about Nostradamus and his prophecies.</i></span> </div><hr color="#000000" noshade="noshade" size="1" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px;" /><h3 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=8789575378342551047" name="Prophecies">Prophecies</a> and Predictions of Nostradamus</span></h3><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">During Nostradamus' lifetime the Black Death (today known as the bubonic plague) wiped out over a quarter of Europe. It is no wonder that a sense of apocalyptic terror fills Nostradamus' quatrains. Nostradamus can indisputably be said to have been ahead of his time, at least in terms of medical practice. His treatment of the Black Death involved removal of the infected corpses, fresh air and unpolluted water for the healthy, a herbal preparation rich in Vitamin C, and (in contravention of contemporary medical practise) not bleeding his patients. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Nostradamus had the visions which he later recorded in verse while staring into water or flame late at night, sometimes aided by herbal stimulants, while sitting on a brass tripod. The resulting quatrains (four line verses) are oblique and elliptical, and use puns, anagrams and allegorical imagery. Most of the quatrains are open to multiple interpretations, and some make no sense whatsoever. Some of them are chilling, literal descriptions of events, giving specific or near-specific names, geographic locations, astrological configurations, and sometimes actual dates. It is this quality of both vagueness and specificity which allows each new generation to reinterpret Nostradamus.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">After his death, his son Caesar gathered the remaining prophecies which had been unpublished up to that point, and published them in 1568, two years after Nostradamus passed away. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Nostradamus referred to the ten chapters of his famous book, The Centuries, as "centuries", although they have nothing to do with 100 year cycles. Each of the centuries (or chapters) contain 100 prophetic quatrains, except for Century VII, which has 42, for a total of 942 prophecies.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The rhymed quatrains of Nostradamus were written mainly in French with a bit of Italian, Greek, and Latin thrown in. He intentionally obscured the quatrains through the use of symbolism and metaphor, as well as by making changes to proper names by swapping, adding or removing letters. The obscuration is claimed to have been done to avoid his being tried as a magician.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Nostradamus intentionally confused the chronological order of his quatrains (a four line prophetic stanza which constitutes one of his prophecies) as a way to make the interpretation of future events slightly more difficult. The interpretation of some quatrains are very specific, others more general in nature. The clearly stated quatrains speak for themselves, requiring little interpretation. Most quatrains, however, require a detailed examination.<br />
Some readers might discover that it takes time to get a feel for reading the quatrains. The more you read them however, the easier it is to make sense of them.<br />
Most readers might be shocked by the perceived contents of some quatrains, for in many ways The Centuries reads like a book of 1,001 future disasters.<br />
Nostradamus stated in the Epistle, that as time goes on, he perceived his prophecies to carry more weight. This is interesting and seemingly correct, especially considering that as time passes, with a little hindsight, we can see the past from a clearer perspective.<br />
In the preface ( a letter dedicated to his son Caesar), Nostradamus stated that his prophetic quatrains were covered with a veil cloud, but are clear enough to be comprehended by men of good intelligence.<br />
Some quatrains were written in a manner that suggests a chronology of time from the beginning of the quatrain to its end. The first line or two of this type of quatrain may pertain to one given period of time, while the lines following it may apply to a time frame later than the lines before it. While this chronological rule does not apply to all quatrains, it seems to apply to some.<br />
The majority of the quatrains pertain to the geographical regions of France, Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia. A few quatrains pertain to the New World, one pertains to the Moon, and a few others make references to outer space.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><i>View online <a href="http://www.sacred-texts.com/nos/index.htm" target="_blank">The Centuries</a> or consider getting some of many <a href="http://www.world-mysteries.com/awr_5.htm#Books%20and%20Video"> books</a> written about Nostradamus and his prophecies.</i></span> </div><hr color="#000000" noshade="noshade" size="1" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px;" /> <h3 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=8789575378342551047" name="NOSTRODAMUS 2000">NOSTRODAMUS 2000</a> </span></h3><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><i>by Doug Yurchey</i></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The name Nostrodamus evokes everything from reverence, mystery and the occult to total skepticism. It is easy to be a skeptic. It is far more difficult to truly understand. A man from the 16th Century should NOT have been able to write about these 20th Century things: </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">* Hitler. <br />
* U.S. & its Eagle symbol. <br />
* Free America to the west. <br />
* Napoleon.<br />
* Mussolini. <br />
* Franco. <br />
* Roosevelt. <br />
* Pasteur. <br />
* Atlantis. <br />
* U.S., French & Russian revolutions. <br />
* WWI & WWII. <br />
* The atomic bomb. <br />
* Air warfare; 'flying boats and galleys.' <br />
* The submarine. <br />
* Motors & antennae. <br />
* Man-made mountains. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">'Nostrodamus often mentions exact specifics such as 'Franco' and 'Pasteur.' Even a hardcore skeptic must soften when they realize that somehow...modern events were published in the 1672 edition: 'The True Prophecies and Prognostications of Michael Nostrodamus.' In 1946, Henry C. Roberts wrote as he read the 1672 edition: 'I had perused but a few pages when I was struck by the sense of familiarity that these verses seemed to hold for me. Words that that the author claimed held no significance for him, took on for me a definite meaning, became clearly focused into patterns of events - past, present and future.' </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Seer to French kings, Nostrodamus was careful not to be too specific. He understood that this could trouble powerful people in his own time. The result is 4-lined quatrains that serve as enigmatic puzzles. Nostrodamus wrote: 'They would condemn that which future ages shall find and know to be true...(quatrains) are perpetual prophecies from this year to the year 3797, at which some perhaps will frown, seeing so large an extension of time...' </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The following verses are some of the most extraordinary. At times, the seer is very specific and the quatrains are not a matter of interpretation. <br />
How did Nostrodamus predict? We may never know. Although in the very first two quatrains, the prophet described his source of knowledge: </span></div><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="AutoNumber7" style="border-collapse: collapse; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; text-align: left; width: 100%px;"><tbody>

It was also the city that gave birth to the great wise man and soothsayer Epimenidis, one of the seven wise men of the ancient world.<br />
Excavations by archaeologists have unearthed ruins of the Neolithic times (3.000 B.C.).<br />
During the Minoan times, Phaistos was a very important city-state. Its dominion, at its peak, stretched from Lithinon to Psychion and included the Paximadia islands. The city participated to the Trojan war and later became one of the most important cities-states of the Dorian period.<br />
Phaistos continued to flourish during Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic times. It was destroyed by the Gortynians during the 3rd century B.C. In spite of that, Phaistos continued to exist during the Roman period.<br />
Phaistos had two ports, Matala and Kommos.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Since 1900, continuous archaeological excavations from the Italian Archaeological School, have brought to light the magnificent Minoan palace of Phaistos with its great royal courts, the great staircases, the theatre, the storerooms and the famous disk of Phaistos.<br />
The first palace was built at 2.000 B.C. This palace was destroyed at 1.700 B.C. by an earthquake. It was built again, more luxurious and magnificent and it was destroyed again, probably by another earthquake, at 1.400 B.C.<br />
The location of the palace was carefully chosen, so as not only to absolutely control the valley of Messara, but to also offer a panoramic view of the surrounding area with the scattered villages, just like today, at the foot of the mountains Psiloritis and Asterousia.<br />
The palace dominated and controlled the Messara valley and it was the center of the city. It was the administrational and economical center of the area.<br />
Goods not only for consumption but mainly for trade were kept in its huge storerooms. The palace was surrounded by luxurious mansions and crowded urban communities. Along with the surrounding settlements covered an area of 18.000 sq. meters.<br />
A paved road leads to the ruins of the Royal Minoan villa of Agia Triada, 3 km west of Phaistos.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Both surfaces of this clay disc are covered with hieroglyphs arranged in a spiral zone, impressed on the clay when it was damp. The signs make up groups divided from each other by vertical lines, and each of these groups should represent a word.</span></div><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Some hieroglyphic sequences recur like refrains, suggesting a religious hymn, and Pernier regards the content of the text as ritual. Others have suggested that the text is a list of soldiers, and lately Davis has interpreted it as a document in the Hittic language in which a king discusses the erection of the Palace of Phaistos. </span><br />

</tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In a century which has seen the cracking of Linear B, Ugaritic, and other orthographic systems, the Phaistos Disk has eluded decipherment. The disk is thought to date from around 1700 BC. It is a roundish disk of clay, with symbols stamped into it. The text consists of 61 words, 16 of which are accompanied by a mysterious "slash" mark.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> There are 45 different symbols occurring 241 times. The symbols portray recognizable objects like human figures and body parts, animals, weapons, and plants. Since the text of the disk is so short, decipherment by the statistical cryptographic techniques employed by Michael Ventris in cracking Linear B are impossible. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Late last year, however, Dr. Keith A.J. Massey and his twin brother Rev. Kevin Massey-Gillespie discovered the secret they believe provides the key to cracking the Phaistos Disk.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Another ancient writing system provides the key to reading the Phaistos Disk.<br />
At Byblos in modern day Lebanon, an advanced culture flourished for centuries. There are many signs of contact between Ancient Crete and Byblos, including signs of orthographic borrowing as pointed out by Victor Kenna in "The Stamp Seal, Byblos 6593" Kadmos 9 (1970) pp 93-96.<br />
Further, examples of the yet undeciphered Linear A script have recently been found in Turkey, providing evidence of orthographic relationships between Crete and Asia Minor.<br />
The Proto-Byblic script was used in the early part of the 2nd millenium BC, a time contemporary with the supposed date of the Phaistos Disk. The underlying language of the Proto-Byblic script was Semitic. It is a linear script which displays many identifiable objects, like weapons, human figures, and body parts. The Proto-Byblic script, catalogued by Maurice Dunand in the 1940's bears striking resemblance to the symbols of the Phaistos Disk. The similarity of one Proto-Byblic character to a Phaistos symbol was noted by Dunand in his book Byblia Grammata, Beyrouth, 1945 on p 90, "Il est presque identique a celui du disque de Phaestos qu-Evans avait identifie avec une colombe." [ It is almost identical to something from the disk of Phaistos which (Sir Arthur) Evans has identified with a dove.] Dunand did not pursue his observation of the similarities, yet it is this Proto-Byblic script which is demonstrated by the Massey twins as being a closely related orthographic system to the Phaistos Disk. Eduard Dhorme, one of the decipherers of Hittite, published the first consonantal values for the Proto-Byblic script in SYRIA XXV 1946 in an article, "Dechiffrement des Inscriptions Pseudo-Hieroglyphicques de Byblos." A comparison of these values with the symbols of the Phaistos Disk yielded consonantal assignments for a surprising amount of the writing on the disk.<br />
It should be noted here that all previous attempts to decipher the Phaistos Disk have been subjective attempts, assigning phonetic values to the characters with no true objective criteria. This is therefore the first effort at cracking the disk by OBJECTIVE determinations. When these consonantal values are examined, elements of an Hellenic language emerge in the text of the disk. Scholars had never known what the significence of a mysterious "slash" on 16 of the words of the Phaistos Disk. We observed, based on our values, that each of these 16 words are numerals counting commodities on the disk, similar to the majority of Linear B texts.</span></div><div align="left"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

Their house was a modest little cottage, located on the edge of a busy main road. They had two daughters who were both twin girls.<br />
<br />
As they grew up, the twin girls were very well-behaved. They never fought or argued. They lived happily together and hated to be separated.<br />
<br />
One day, the mother had to go to the shop and buy some milk and bread. She didn’t want to leave the girls on their own so she brought them with her. Grasping both girls by the hand, the mother led them across the busy road.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, the mother had forgotten to look both ways before she crossed the street. Just as they neared the other side, she heard a loud screech and then a horrible crunching sound as her daughters’ tiny hands were torn out of her grasp.<br />
<br />
When the mother twirled around to look, she screamed in horror at what she saw and collapsed on the sidewalk. The twin girls had been run over by a huge truck. The bloody remains of the twin girls were splattered across the road.<br />
<br />
The mother began crying and sobbing hysterically. Try as she might, she couldn’t tear her eyes away from the two big streaks of red that stained the road.<br />
<br />
At the funeral the father tried to confort his wife, but she was inconsolable. Over and over, she screamed “This is all my fault! This is all my fault!”<br />
<br />
Four years later, the mother and father still lived in the same house beside the road where their daughters had perished. The woman became pregnant again. The couple were surprised when the doctors told them that they would be having twins again.<br />
<br />
The parents rejoiced when their two little girls were born. This happy event caused the mother to forget the tragedy of the past. As the twin girls grew up, their mother and father were careful never to mention the previous children. They acted as if the deceased girls had never existed.<br />
<br />
One day, the two little twin girls were playing in the garden. Their mother came out and told them to come with her to the shop. As they stood at the edge of the road, the mother took hold of the hands of the two girls and held them tightly.<br />
<br />
Suddenly, as the mother began walking across the road, the girls began to struggle and tried to slip out of their mother’s grasp.<br />
<br />
“No, Mommy! Don’t hold us!”, cried the twin girls in unison. “We don’t want to die again!”<br />

The hotel owners have tried to hush up the story for fear that noon will visit their establishment, but the name of it is The Oregon Caves Chateau.<br />
<br />
A woman was driving back to her home in California from Washington to California. It was late evening and snow had begun to fall before she finally reached the little Oregon town where she planed to spend the night. Tired and ready for a hot meal and a goodnight’s sleep, she stopped at the first place she came upon. It was an old hotel on the main street. The lobby had a musty odor. The seedy clerk behind the desk signed herin. Her room was on the third floor -Room 310.<br />
<br />
An elderly bellhop helped herewith her luggage. As soon as the door was opened, a blast of hot air struck the woman full in the face. With the hot air came something else, something she could not define but that filled her with dread. It was heavy and depressing, she explained, “with the strong scent of the evil.“ She felt as if she was about to faint. All she said was, “It’s awfully hot.” The bellhop tinkered with the radiator knobs. Then he opened the window and left. The room began to cool off, but the feeling of despair and dread grew stronger. It centered on the open square of black window space. The terror seemed to speak in her mind. She thought she could sense a voice whispering to her. Compelling her to do something terrible. “Go to the window,” it said. “Throw yourself out!”<br />
<br />
She couldn’t seem to resist the urge to jump out the window to what she knew would be certain death. She clawed at the bedsheets, trying to restrain herself from walking towards the open window. Terrified, the woman eventually summoned the strength and crawled out of the room. She rushed down to the lobby and shouted to the staff that she couldn’t stay another minute.<br />
<br />
She explained, “I was sure that if I stayed the night, I’d be dead by morning.” She was prepared to sacrifice the money she’d already paid just to leave, but when she went, the clerk never asked what was wrong or if she wished to try another room. He returned the full cash amount to her.<br />
<br />
She checked into another hotel and had planned to be on her way early the next morning. Instead she decided to stay over a day and look into the history of the old hotel to see if she could discover the reason for her terrifying experience there. She visited the local library to make a few inquiries. An elderly librarian sat behind the desk. “I’m just wondering,” the woman said tentatively. “Did anything shocking ever happen in the old hotel?” The librarian looked at her strangely. “How did you come upon that bit of history?”she asked. “It took the hotel a long time to squash the story.” The librarian went on to tell what had happened.<br />
<br />
One evening back in 1948 a couple checked into the hotel as Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Smith. The next morning hotel employees found the young womans body lying on the sidewalk outside the hotel beneath Room 310. The man who had registered as her husband had disappeared. “At first it was ruled suicide,” the librarian concluded. “But then they pried open her fist and found it clutched a handful of dark curly hair, not her own. So they made a search for the murderer. But he was never found . . . “By the way,” the librarian suddenly added,”isn’t that a coincidence! It all happened on November 5th, forty years ago yesterday. “ <br />

</div><div style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span><span>One day, the mother went out shopping for groceries and left her baby at home alone. On the way home, she met with an accident and was killed. She was not carrying and identification at the time and the police were unable to figure out who she was. Nobody came forward to claim her body, so she was buried in an unmarked grave. She had no living relatives, which meant that nobody noticed her disappearance.<br />
<br />
Two months later, the dead mother’s landlord noticed that he hadn’t recieved any rent from her. He visited her house and knocked on the door. When nobody answered, he opened the front door using his duplicate key. He went inside and found the house was in complete darkness. The electricity had been cut off.<br />
<br />
He walked around in the dark, going from room to room. All of the woman’s furniture and clothing was still there. In the bedroom, he found a black doll lying in the middle of the floor. “She must have left in a hurry”, he said to himself. “She didn’t take anything with her.”<br />
<br />
Then he heard a rustling noise. It was coming from the black doll. He bent down to pick it up, but the moment he touched it, the doll crumbled apart in his hands. Hundreds of cockroaches scurried away and all that was left was the skeleton of a baby.</span></span></div>Inisialku_elhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02897055068655230653noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8789575378342551047.post-56656520462401197602012-07-25T06:40:00.000-07:002012-07-25T06:40:14.628-07:00Dolls on the walls<div style="clear: left; color: black; float: left; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><span><span><i><b> </b></i></span></span><img alt="http://www.emd.pl/muzyka/z/zorn_john/jzch_2.jpg" src="http://www.emd.pl/muzyka/z/zorn_john/jzch_2.jpg" /></div><br />
<div style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span><span><i><b>Unsolved mystery</b></i> - Since i can remember, this is the yuckiest doll story i have ever heard.<br />
<br />
Her name was cathy, she had a doll. long blonde hair, she stood 9 inches tall. one day cathy was playing with her friend, as they were chatting, and ranting about her doll again.<br />
<br />
the doll itself was hard to turn, within a mirror, it looked charred and burned. little cathy still loved to play, although her parents threw the doll away.<br />
<br />
years went by, cathy grew. the loss of her doll was nothing new. her 18th birthday, with no cares, she tripped her mother down the stairs.<br />
<br />
she took her daddys one last breath, and shook a knife up at his death. cathy killed them, they had to fall, she did it for her long lost doll.<br />
<br />
next the cravings came to her, to make mommy and daddys brains dessert. she hoysted them up, with nails and a hook, deceased dolls on the walls, ready to cook.<br />
<br />
she played with them first, as if still alive, then engaged in her thirst, drinking blood that had died. as this did just happen, the phone started to ring, cathy picked it up abrupt, a voice started to sing.<br />
<br />
it was her beloved doll of old, right there on the telephone... the room started getting cold, cathys skin a greenish overtone. the doll demanded that she cut her own wrists, cathy repromanded, but "it is you that started this".<br />
<br />
the phone just went blank, as did cathys stare, next the front door was cranked, right up in the air. there stood the doll, so delightful to cathy. it made its way closer, as it started its slashing.<br />
<br />
cathy screamed out,"but i love you so", the doll then gleemed about, "ive come for your soul". she looked at her parents, and realized what she had done. but it was far too late, bloodfilled tears had over-run.<br />
<br />
<br />
...the doll still lives, and strives when you want it to, but never re-tell the story...as cathy is waiting, watching, and wanting a new doll like you...</span></span></div><div style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span><span></span></span></div><div style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />

Was Butch’s body falsely identified?</strong></div></div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The names Robert LeRoy Parker and Harry Alonzo Longabaugh don’t often ring a bell. That’s because they’re better known as the legendary outlaws from the late 1800s, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Paul Newman and Robert Redford starred in the celebrated film about their final days. The movie, like history, tells us that Butch and Sundance died in a shootout in South America. But some believe that Hollywood and history may be wrong. There is evidence that Butch Cassidy returned to the United States and died of natural causes. </div><div> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Two years after Butch and Sundance were supposedly killed, a man named William Thadeus Phillips arrived in Spokane, Washington. He opened a successful machine shop and became a prominent businessman. According to writer James Dullenty, Phillips was a man without a past: </div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><em>“The first definitive record of William Phillips was his marriage certificate dated May 14, 1908. There is no other previous record of William Phillips. About 1922, the first reports began circulating in the West that Butch Cassidy had returned. And people began to say that Butch Cassidy was William Phillips.”</em></div><div class="style12" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> <div align="center"><img height="168" src="http://www.unsolved.com/images/cases/leg_butch_cassidy4.jpg" width="250" /><strong><br />
Phillips wrote the story of Butch Cassidy</strong></div></div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Some see a resemblance between William Thadeus Phillips and George Butch Cassidy. But if Phillips was Cassidy, then how did the outlaw escape from Bolivia? According to some historians, the account of how Butch and Sundance died can be credited to one man, Percy Seibert.</div><div> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Seibert had worked with the outlaws at a tin mine in Bolivia and became friends with them. He was the one who identified the two men killed in the shoot out as Butch and Sundance. But writer Larry Pointer thinks that Seibert may have deliberately lied:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><em>“I believe that Percy told the story of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’s death in Bolivia to pay back what he felt was a debt of loyalty and friendship, to allow these outlaws to begin a life under amnesty without a past.”</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Larry Pointer is convinced that Butch Cassidy took on the identity of William Phillips. As Phillips, he returned to the Wyoming mountains, where Butch and his outlaw gang had once cavorted. James Dullenty says he’s heard first hand reports about Phillips: </div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><em>“We know the man who went with Phillips to Wyoming in 1933. This man died recently, but we have interviewed him. He was there all summer with Phillips and he met all the old timers that Philips met, and in almost every case, these old timers accepted Phillips as Cassidy.”</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="style11" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> <img height="168" src="http://www.unsolved.com/images/cases/leg_butch_cassidy5.jpg" width="250" /><strong><br />
Cassidy’s brand was on Phillip’s gun</strong><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Author Dan Buck has researched the life and death of Butch Cassidy and is convinced that William Phillips was an imposter:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><em>“Old timer stories are always the most interesting and the least reliable. The William Phillips story is chock full of old timer tales, people that claim they were good friends with Cassidy and knew Phillips was Cassidy. And usually it’s when asked by someone, when prompted by someone -- ‘Well, you were a good friend of Butch Cassidy’s weren’t you?’ -- and, of course. the answer is yes. Who wants to say no?”</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">In Wyoming, Phillips met a woman named Mary Boyd Rhodes. In 1934, Mary and her sixteen year old granddaughter, Ione, rode out to Phillips’ campsite:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><em>“The man that my grandmother met that day was going by the name of William Phillips, and she knew him by the name of Leroy George Parker, who is known as Butch Cassidy. He recognized her immediately and she recognized him. I sensed that they had a relationship that I had never known much about. So my grandmother had finally told me that he was her childhood sweetheart.”</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Three years later, Phillips mailed a ring to Mary. It was engraved: “George C. to Mary B.” Phillips died soon afterwards. Dan Buck believes that Phillips pretended to be Cassidy for the fun of it: </div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><em>“He traveled out to the west, he met some people, he probably got some free beers, he certainly got a lot of adventures out of it. But some people have recently done some photo comparisons of the two and established that they have different heads and different faces. Cassidy basically had small features on a big head with a lantern jaw. And Phillips had more normal features with a more or less pointed chin, and his head was basically an inch or more lower than Butch Cassidy’s.”</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">But several other clues suggest that Butch and Phillips were one and the same. Phillips wrote a manuscript called “The Bandit Invincible: The Story of Butch Cassidy.” According to James Dullenty, it contained specific details about Butch’s adventures:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><em>“There’s material in that manuscript that no one else knew and that had never been published, that either the man who wrote it had to have intimate knowledge of Cassidy, or he was Cassidy.”</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Phillips owned this six-shot Colt revolver. Carved into the pistol grip was a unique brand.<br />
Larry Pointer says it’s significant: </div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body_indent" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><em>“That brand was the reverse E box E. That was Butch Cassidy’s brand in the 1890s.”</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="wanted_case_body" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">There seems to be at least some evidence that Butch Cassidy may have survived the shootout. But it was almost certainly the end of the road for the Sundance Kid.</div>Inisialku_elhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02897055068655230653noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8789575378342551047.post-46239450177328552922012-07-13T07:13:00.000-07:002012-07-13T07:13:12.309-07:00Mystery of Black hole<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Unsolved Mystery - Observations with CSIRO's Australia Telescope Compact Array have confirmed that astronomers have found the first known "middleweight" black hole.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Outbursts of super-hot gas observed with a CSIRO radio telescope have clinched the identity of the first known "middleweight" black hole, <em>Science Express</em> reports.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Called HLX-1 ("hyper-luminous X-ray source 1"), the black hole lies in a galaxy called ESO 243-49, about 300 million light-years away.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Before it was found, astronomers had good evidence for only supermassive black holes -- ones a million to a billion times the mass of the Sun -- and "stellar mass" ones, three to thirty times the mass of the Sun.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />

We are sure this is an intermediate-mass black hole -- the very first."</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Since 2010 the researchers have been studying the black hole with CSIRO's Compact Array radio telescope near Narrabri, NSW.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"From studying other black holes we know that sucking in the gas creates X-rays, but there's then a sort of reflux, with the region around the black hole shooting out jets of high-energy particles that hit gas around the black hole and generate radio waves," said Dr Farrell.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"So what we tend to see is the X-ray emission and then, a day or two or even a few days later, the source flaring up in radio waves."</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">By looking at the source's X-ray output, the researchers predicted two occasions when it should also be brightening in radio waves -- and they were right both times.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Dr Farrell speculates that a companion star traverses a very eccentric orbit around the black hole. When the companion comes close, the black hole strips gas from its partner, and it is this that gives rise to the X-ray flaring.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The brightness of the X-ray and radio flares have allowed the team to put an upper limit on the mass of the black hole of 90,000 times the mass of the Sun. However, Dr Farrell says that this is a conservative estimate, and for a variety of reasons a lower figure of around 20,000 solar masses is more likely.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Why have we found only this one confirmed intermediate-mass black hole? "There maybe lots of others out there that are not currently feeding, and so are not detectable, or are feeding at a very low rate, so they don't stand out as intermediate-mass black holes," Dr Ekers said.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">HLX-1 may have been the central black hole of a low-mass "dwarf" galaxy, Dr Farrell speculates; a dwarf galaxy that was swallowed by the larger galaxy ESO 243-49, just as our own Milky Way Galaxy has swallowed dwarf galaxies. There is evidence of star-formation about HLX-1, which would be consistent with a "plunging dwarf." The research team is now looking for other signs of disturbance around the site of the black hole, such as gas streams, which would also support this idea.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Excavating for the first time in the sprawling complex of Xultún in Guatemala's Petén region, a team of archaeologists lead by Boston University Assistant Professor of Archaeology William Saturno has uncovered a structure that contains what appears to be a work space for the town's scribe, its walls adorned with unique paintings -- one depicting a lineup of men in black uniforms -- and hundreds of scrawled numbers. Many are calculations relating to the Maya calendar.</div><div> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">One wall of the structure, thought to be a house, is covered with tiny, millimeter-thick, red and black glyphs unlike any seen before at other Maya sites. Some appear to represent the various calendrical cycles charted by the Maya -- the 260-day ceremonial calendar, the 365-day solar calendar, the 584-day cycle of the planet Venus and the 780-day cycle of Mars, reports Saturno, who led the exploration and excavation.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"For the first time we get to see what may be actual records kept by a scribe, whose job was to be official record keeper of a Maya community," Saturno said. "It's like an episode of TV's 'Big Bang Theory,' a geek math problem and they're painting it on the wall. They seem to be using it like a blackboard."</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The discovery is reported in the June issue of <em>National Geographic</em> magazine and in the May 11 issue of the journal <em>Science</em>.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The project scientists say that despite popular belief, there is no sign that the Maya calendar -- or the world -- was to end in the year 2012, just one of its calendar cycles. "It's like the odometer of a car, with the Maya calendar rolling over from the 120,000s to 130,000," said Anthony Aveni,, professor of astronomy and anthropology at Colgate University, a coauthor of the Science paper. "The car gets a step closer to the junkyard as the numbers turn over; the Maya just start over."</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The mural represents the first Maya art to be found on the walls of a house. "There are tiny glyphs all over the wall, bars and dots representing columns of numbers. It's the kind of thing that only appears in one place -- the Dresden Codex, which the Maya wrote many centuries later. We've never seen anything like it," said David Stuart, Schele Professor of Mesoamerican Art and Writing at the University of Texas-Austin, who deciphered the glyphs.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The vegetation-covered structure was first spotted in 2010 by Saturno's student Max Chamberlain, who was following looters' trenches to explore the site of Xultún, hidden in the remote rain forest of the Petén. Then, supported by a series of grants from the National Geographic Society, Saturno and his team launched an organized exploration and excavation of the house, working urgently to beat the region's rainy seasons, which threatened to erase what time had so far preserved.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Xultún, a 12-square-mile site where tens of thousands once lived, was first discovered about 100 years ago by Guatemalan workers and roughly mapped in the 1920s by Sylvanus Morley, who named the site "Xultún" -- "end stone." Scientists from Harvard University mapped more of the site in the 1970s. The house discovered by Saturno's team was numbered 54 of 56 structures counted and mapped at that time. Thousands at Xultún remain uncounted.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The team's excavations reveal that monumental construction at Xultún began in the first centuries B.C. The site thrived until the end of the Classic Maya period; the site's last carved monument dates to around 890 A.D. Xultún stood only about five miles from San Bartolo, where in 2001 Saturno found rare, extensive murals painted on the walls of a ritual structure by the ancient Maya.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"It's weird that the Xultún finds exist at all," Saturno said. "Such writings and artwork on walls don't preserve well in the Maya lowlands, especially in a house buried only a meter below the surface."</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The Writing on the Walls</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The house contains three intact walls, each telling its own story to researchers -- and posing its own mysteries:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The north wall lies straight ahead as one enters the room. An off-center niche in the wall features a painting of a seated king, wearing blue feathers. A long rod made of bone mounted on the wall allowed a curtain to be pulled across the king's portrait, hiding it and revealing a well-preserved painting of a man whose image is wrapped around the wall; he is depicted in vibrant orange and holds a pen. Maya glyphs near his face call him "Younger Brother Obsidian," a curious title seldom seen in Maya text. Based on other Maya sites, Saturno theorizes he could be the son or younger brother of the king and possibly the artist-scribe who lived in the house. "The portrait of the king implies a relationship between whoever lived in this space and the royal family," Saturno said.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Four long numbers on the wall representing one-third of a million to 2.5 million days likely bring together all of the astronomical cycles -- such as those of Mars, Venus and the lunar eclipses -- the Maya thought important, dates that stretch some 7,000 years into the future. This is the first place Maya archaeologists have found that seems to tabulate all of these cycles in this way. Another number scratched into the plaster surface likely records the date -- 813 A.D., a time when the Maya world had begun to collapse.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The west wall: Three male figures loom on this wall, all of them seated and painted in black, wearing only white loincloths, medallions around their necks and identical single-feathered, miter-style head dresses. "We haven't seen uniform head dresses like that anywhere before," Saturno said. "It's clearly a costume of some kind." One of the figures is particularly burly, "like a sumo wrestler," and he is labeled "Older Brother Obsidian." Another is labeled as a youth.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The east wall: Although badly eroded, another black-painted human figure and remnants of others can be seen. But the wall is dominated by numerical figures, including columns of numbers representing counting and calendrical calculations. Some of the numbers track the phases of the moon; others try to reconcile lunar periods with the solar calendar. "Skywatching like this was a tool for predicting eclipses," Saturno said. One well-preserved section contains numerical notes painted in red that appear to be corrections to more formal calculations appearing alongside them.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"The most exciting point is that we now see that the Maya were making such computations hundreds of years -- and in places other than books -- before they recorded them in the Codices," Aveni said.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The scientists say the symbols reflect a certain world view. "The ancient Maya predicted the world would continue, that 7,000 years from now, things would be exactly like this," Saturno said. "We keep looking for endings. The Maya were looking for a guarantee that nothing would change. It's an entirely different mindset."</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">First identified in 1931, this blue pigment (known as Maya Blue) has puzzled archaeologists, chemists and material scientists for years because of its unusual chemical stability, composition and persistent color in one of the world's harshest climates.</span></div><div> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">The anthropologists solved another old mystery, namely the presence of a 14-foot layer of blue precipitate found at the bottom of the Sacred Cenote (a natural well) at Chichén Itzá. This remarkably thick blue layer was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century when the well was dredged.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">Chichén Itzá, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is an important pre-Columbian archeological site built by the Maya who lived on what is now the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">The findings from this research will be published online Feb. 26, 2008, by the prestigious British journal Antiquity and will appear in the print version of the quarterly journal to be released in early March.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">According to 16th Century textual accounts, blue was the color of sacrifice for the ancient Maya. They painted human beings blue before thrusting them backwards on an altar (see below for image) and cutting their beating heart from their bodies. Human sacrifices were also painted blue before they were thrown into the Sacred Cenote at Chichén Itzá. In addition, blue was used on murals, pottery, copal incense, rubber, wood and other items thrown into the well.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">The new research concludes that the sacrificial blue paint found at this site was not just any pigment. Instead, it was the renowned Maya Blue -- an important, vivid, virtually indestructible pigment.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">Maya Blue is resistant to age, acid, weathering, biodegradation and even modern chemical solvents. It has been called "one of the great technological and artistic achievements of Mesoamerica."</span></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;"><img alt="" border="0" height="241" src="http://images.sciencedaily.com/2008/02/080226162953.jpg" width="300" /><br />

Arnold, Courtesy of Dean E. Arnold)</em></span></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">Scientists have long known that the remarkably stable Maya Blue results from a unique chemical bond between indigo and palygorskite, an unusual clay mineral that, unlike most clay minerals, has long interior channels. Several studies have found that Maya Blue can be created by heating a mixture of palygorskite with a small amount of indigo, but they have not been able to discover how the ancient Maya themselves actually produced the pigment.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">The new research shows that at Chichén Itzá the creation of Maya Blue was actually a part of the performance of rituals that took place alongside the Sacred Cenote. Specifically, the indigo and palygorskite were fused together with heat by burning a mixture of copal incense, palygorskite and probably the leaves of the indigo plant. Then the sacrifices were painted blue and thrown into the Sacred Cenote.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">"These sacrifices were aimed at placating the rain god Chaak," said Dean E. Arnold, Professor of Anthropology at Wheaton College, Research Associate at The Field Museum and lead author of the study. "The ritual combination of these three materials, each of which was used for healing, had great symbolic value and ritualistic significance.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">"The Maya used indigo, copal incense and palygorskite for medicinal purposes," Arnold continued. "So, what we have here are three healing elements that were combined with fire during the ritual at the edge of the Sacred Cenote. The result created Maya Blue, symbolic of the healing power of water in an agricultural community."</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">Rain was critical to the ancient Maya of northern Yucatan. From January through mid-May there is little rain -- so little that the dry season could be described as a seasonal drought. "The offering of three healing elements thus fed Chaak and symbolically brought him into the ritual in the form a bright blue color that hopefully would bring rainfall and allow the corn to grow again," Arnold said.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>Museum collections play key role</b></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">One of the keys to solving the mystery of Maya Blue production was a three-footed pottery bowl (Field Museum catalog number 1969.189262; see below for reference to image) containing rarely preserved copal dredged from the Sacred Cenote at Chichén Itzá in 1904 and traded to The Field Museum in the 1930s. Preserved in the copal were fragments of a white substance and blue pigment. Using The Field Museum's scanning electron microscope, the authors studied these inclusions and found signatures for palygorskite and indigo. From this they concluded that the Maya produced Maya Blue as part of their sacrificial ceremonies.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">"This study documents the analytical value of museum collections for resolving long-standing research questions," said Gary Feinman, Curator of Anthropology at The Field Museum and co-author of the study.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">But other knowledge was necessary to understand the significance of the bowl and the hardened copal it contains.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">"This study required documentary, ethnographic and experimental research to establish the full context and use of the artifacts," Feinman said. "Our work emphasizes the potential rewards of scientific work on old museum collections. It also shows that scientific analysis is necessary but not sufficient for understanding museum objects."</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is this broad knowledge coupled with the scientific analysis that has enabled the scientists to finally -- after more than 100 years -- explain the thick layer of blue precipitate at the bottom of the Sacred Cenote at Chichén Itzá.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">Already knowing that Maya Blue was central to Maya ritualistic sacrifices together with discovering that the pigment was produced right beside the Cenote solved the mystery of the 14-foot layer of blue precipitate: So many sacrifices -- from pots to more than 100 human beings -- were thrown into the Sacred Cenote that ultimately a layer of the pigment washed off the sacrifices and settled at the bottom of the well. (Although fully formed Maya Blue is extremely durable, it can be washed off with water, especially if there is no binder to help it adhere to the object on which it is placed.)</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">Other objects in The Field Museum's collections may reveal more information about Maya Blue, the scientists said. For example, identification of the plant materials on the bottom of the copal incense in other bowls dredged from the Sacred Cenote at Chichén Itzá could reveal which portions of the indigo plant were used to make Maya Blue.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">"The Field Museum's collection was critical in solving this mystery," Arnold concluded. "This bowl has been in the collection for 75 years yet only now have we been able to use it in discovering the ancient Maya technology of making Maya Blue."</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">The other co-authors of this research are Jason Branden from Northwestern University, and Patrick Ryan Williams and J.P. Brown, both from The Field Museum.</span></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />

One exploration goal is to discover the remains of a Maya trading canoe, described in A.D. 1502 by Christopher Columbus' son Ferdinand, as holding 25 paddlers plus cargo and passengers.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Through the end of May, the team is exploring the remote jungle, mangrove forests and lagoons at the ancient port site of Vista Alegre ("happy view" in Spanish) where the Caribbean meets the Gulf of Mexico at the northeastern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. Scientists believe the port was part of an important trading network and was used at various times between about 800 B.C. and A.D. 1521, the date scholars use to designate the start of Spanish rule.</div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"The maritime Maya have been described much like ancient seagoing Phoenicians. Explorers believe the summit of the pyramid was also used by lookouts to monitor approaching and departing canoes. Impervious to the effects of chemical or physical weathering, the pigment was applied to pottery, sculpture, and murals in Mesoamerica largely during the Classic and Postclassic periods (AD 250-1520), playing a central role in ancient Maya religious practice. This unusual blue paint was used to coat the victims of human sacrifice and the altars on which they were dispatched.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;"><img alt="" border="0" height="199" src="http://images.sciencedaily.com/2012/04/120402113107.jpg" width="300" /><br />

</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">For some time, scientists have known that Maya Blue is formed through the chemical combination of indigo and the clay mineral palygorskite. Only now, however, have researchers established a link between contemporary indigenous knowledge and ancient sources of the mineral.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">In a paper published online in the <em>Journal of Archaeological Science</em> on March 16, 2012, researchers from Wheaton College, The Field Museum of Natural History, the United States Geological Survey, California State University of Long Beach, and the Smithsonian Institution, demonstrated that the palygorskite component in some of the Maya Blue samples came from mines in two locations in Mexico's northern Yucatan Peninsula.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Research on sources for palygorskite has been ongoing since the late 1960's. Through a combination of ethnographic research and mineralogical analyses, Dean E. Arnold, Professor of Anthropology at Wheaton College, and now Adjunct Curator of Anthropology at The Field Museum, discovered that palygorskite was well known among indigenous potters of Ticul, Yucatán. These contemporary Maya used palygorskite as a key component of pottery and also prescribed the mineral for medicinal purposes. Indigenous knowledge further extends to sources of palygorskite: potters extracted the mineral from two mines in Yucatán -- one in Sacalum and the other near the city of Ticul at a location called Yo' Sah Kab.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">As part of his research, Arnold noted Terminal Classic (800-1000 AD) pottery and other signs of ancient site occupation at both of the modern sources. This suggested that the mines were used by the Maya as sources for the palygorskite used in Maya Blue. However, further tests were needed to convincingly link the present-day mines with the ancient Maya.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Between 1965 and 1997, Dean Arnold and Bruce E. Bohor of the United States Geological Survey collected 33 samples of the mineral from the Yucatán region. After mineralogical analysis, it was possible to differentiate between samples of palygorskite based on composition, which meant the palygorskite within specific samples of Maya Blue could be traced to specific locations.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">With funding from the National Geographic Society, Arnold and Bohor collected additional 167 samples of palygorskite from five different sites in Yucatan in 2008. The analyses of these samples were then compared to analyses of the Maya Blue pigment found on pottery originally taken from Chichén Itzá and Palenque, Yucatán. The Chichén Itzá material was collected by E. H. Thompson and J. E. S. Thompson in the late 19th and early 20th century and is curated at The Field Museum. These objects were analyzed in the museum's Elemental Analysis Facility (EAF).</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The analysis confirmed that all the samples of Maya Blue from the ancient Maya site of Chichén Itzá were created with palygorskite derived from Sacalum, while the Maya Blue samples from Palenque could have been from Sacalum, Yo' Sah Kab, or another unknown source.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"Utilizing ground-breaking chemical sourcing techniques, we have unlocked data from collections held in The Field Museum for more than 100 years," reported The Field Museum's EAF Director and Curator and Chair of Anthropology, Ryan Williams.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"The data resulting from this study provides definitive evidence that Sacalum was the source for palygorskite used in Maya Blue from Chichén Itzá," Williams added.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Noting that the ancient Maya would have been limited by available technology and using this new data, senior author Arnold and his colleagues argue that sources of palygorskite for the ancient Maya were limited by available technology and the ancient landscape. Thus, Sacalum and Yo' Sah Kab, because of their accessibility and size, would have been prime sources of palygorskite used by the ancient Maya.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"Overall this study illustrates the key benefits of scientific teamwork to unravel the mysteries of a key ancient technology," said study participant and Field Museum curator, Gary Feinman.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />

The discovery, one of the most significant hieroglyphic finds in decades, was announced June 28 at the National Palace in Guatemala.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div id="photo"><div style="text-align: center;"> <img alt="" height="405" src="http://images.sciencedaily.com/2012/06/120628181735.jpg" width="300" /><br />

</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"This text talks about ancient political history rather than prophecy," says Marcello A. Canuto, director of Tulane's Middle American Research Institute and co-director of the excavations at La Corona.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Since 2008, Canuto and Tomás Barrientos of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala have directed excavations at La Corona, a site previously ravaged by looters.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> "Last year, we realized that looters of a particular building had discarded some carved stones because they were too eroded to sell on the antiquities black market," said Barrientos, "so we knew they found something important, but we also thought they might have missed something."</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">What Canuto and Barrientos found was the longest text ever discovered in Guatemala. Carved on staircase steps, it records 200 years of La Corona history, states David Stuart, director of the Mesoamerica Center at The University of Texas at Austin, who was part of a 1997 expedition that first explored the site.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">While deciphering these new finds in May, Stuart recognized the 2012 reference on a stairway block bearing 56 delicately carved hieroglyphs. It commemorated a royal visit to La Corona in AD 696 by the most powerful Maya ruler of that time, Yuknoom Yich'aak K'ahk' of Calakmul, only a few months after his defeat by long-standing rival Tikal in AD 695. Thought by scholars to have been killed in this battle, this ruler was visiting allies and allaying their fears after his defeat.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"This was a time of great political turmoil in the Maya region and this king felt compelled to allude to a larger cycle of time that happens to end in 2012," says Stuart.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">So, rather than prophesy, the 2012 reference places this king's troubled reign and accomplishments into a larger cosmological framework.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"In times of crisis, the ancient Maya used their calendar to promote continuity and stability rather than predict apocalypse," says Canuto.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br />

And how to call kuntilanak is with melatunkan a Javanese song. Not the same as jaelangkung way calling, which can be done by anyone, it is different with kuntilanak.<br />
<div><br />
How to call kuntilanak can only be done by someone who has the ability to "more" than the average person. This capability is not yet certain how to get it because there is some myth that this ability obtained from the ancestors or descendants, and still others say it is coincidence or she was the one factor that was chosen without any cause.<br />
<br />
If the caller java kuntilanak song is sung, will make the victim a nosebleed, after that the "penembang" will vomit maggot (a type of caterpillar that feed on corpses or organs that have been rotten), and the victim a nosebleed after that eventually the victim will die horribly with the head twisted. The same ritual is said to occur when the song is sung Java, singing - nosebleeds - maggots - die horribly.<br />

In this case maintaining kuntilanak goal is to get something whether it be revenge, get pesugian which is closely related to how "smooth" the business or business that is being undertaken.<br />
<br />
Friendship with this fine creature also known as saka Those who are friends with these spirits need to comply with certain conditions such as exist are requesting the food offerings, there is a need to burn incense every time, and there is no requirement to wear anything, or to perform rituals particular.</div></div>Inisialku_elhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02897055068655230653noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8789575378342551047.post-80358323763677341712012-06-29T15:59:00.002-07:002012-06-29T15:59:50.726-07:00Mystery about voodoo dool<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: small;"> </span><div class="post-header" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: small;"> </span><div class="post-body entry-content" id="post-body-7472919920091095144" itemprop="articleBody" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: small;"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.celticmythmoon.com/images/Voodoo_Dolls_800W.jpg" style="display: block; height: 341px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 375px;" /><b><i>Unsolved mystery</i></b> - </span><span style="font-size: small;">When best bodies apprehend the chat Voodoo, there are a few images that pop in their head. Aboriginal they anticipate of New Orleans, again Voodoo dolls, animal sacrifices, blame and the angry eye. These are a few of the misconceptions that beleaguer Voodoo. Here, the belief that beleaguer Voodoo will be dispelled. </span></div><span style="font-size: small;">The aboriginal allegory is that Voodoo originated in New Orleans. The accuracy is that it started in Haiti, and there are cogent differences amid Haitian Voodoo and American or New Orleans Voodoo. A primary aberration amid Haitian Voodoo and New Orleans Voodoo is that in New Orleans Voodoo there is both white and atramentous magic. The purpose actuality is to awning New Orleans Voodoo. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The additional allegory is that Voodoo uses animal sacrifice. This allegory started in the backward 1800s, back abounding bodies believed that a allotment of the accepted convenance of those that accomplished Voodoo sacrificed bodies in their rituals, abounding assertive that accouchement were the best accepted "offerings." These misconceptions were added abstract by the writings of Sir Spenser St. John, a delegate to Haiti. This allegory is absolutely false. Interestingly enough, animal cede is absolutely adjoin the moral cipher of Voodoo, the moral cipher includes the account of "not harming others." </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The use of Voodoo dolls is addition myth. A baby is fabricated in the affinity of a being that one would like to "work Voodoo" on. They are about depicted with pins and all-overs ashore through them to account abuse to the victim. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">First, the agent of the Voodoo baby absolutely stems from the "poppet," which was acclimated in abracadabra in Europe. The absolute appellation of Voodoo baby was invented by an American biographer who wrote a fabulous adventure about Voodoo afterwards he was told that it was witchcraft. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Secondly, a Voodoo baby that is acclimated to account affliction to addition is additionally adjoin the moral code. The accuracy is that the alone dolls that are acclimated in Voodoo are the dolls that are acclimated on Voodoo alters which are meant to represent loas. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">What again is the accuracy about Voodoo, if it is not the glamorized Hollywood adaptation abounding accept that it is? The primary elements of Voodoo are actual agnate to added faiths, including Christianity. Voodooists accept in a axial god who is amenable for the conception of the universe. Voodooists additionally accept in a cardinal of bottom gods and alcohol which they alarm either orishas or loa and anniversary is the adept of their own apple of influence, agnate to the saints in Christianity. The axial god is alleged Oloddumare. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Voodoo requires an admission ritual, which is taken affliction of by a Voodoo priest. Best about it is due to some issues a being is accepting in their life. If the priest determines that these issues are acquired from loa, the admission again will allay loa and the issues will cease. Voodoo admission will additionally accomplish any asleep ancestors of the victim blessed who may be addictive him/her because they feel she/he is crumbling their potential. The admission is absolutely a apish afterlife of the victim (which could be the foundation of the allegory of animal sacrifice.) </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Finally, there is white and atramentous abracadabra absorb in Voodoo. Anniversary blazon of abracadabra is acclimated for both awful and almsman reasons. A Voodoo priest will about accept a alive ability of both. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">So there you accept some of the better belief about Voodoo absolutely debunked. It's a acceptable acumen to not consistently accept legends that you apprehend or apprehend about.</span></div>Inisialku_elhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02897055068655230653noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8789575378342551047.post-56679956368212642642012-06-29T15:58:00.002-07:002012-06-29T15:58:51.870-07:00Seven Methods of Releasing Evils to Clean Your Soul<div class="post-header" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </div><div class="post-body entry-content" id="post-body-4398870190585443465" itemprop="articleBody" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"> <img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.futureofthebook.org/blog/archives/napalm8pl.jpg" style="display: block; height: 289px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 375px;" /><b><i>UNsolved mystery </i></b>- Recently, one bunch aggregation in Gurgaon (India) asked their advisers to act like hooligans and breach the appliance and equipments of the office. The advisers bankrupt the appointment in abounding appearance of the employer and media cameras which was telecasted on television. The employer told the media that the exercise was done to abate the astriction from the apperception of the employees. The advisers too were attractive absolutely airy and blessed afterwards accomplishing the annihilative activities. The adventure of annexation and abolition of accessible backdrop are absolutely accepted in best countries. The bodies aperture their annoyance adjoin the government and the arrangement by agreeable themselves in such illegal, bent and annihilative activities and alike ache imprisonment for their outbursts. <br />
The abolition of acreage is not the alone agency of the affectation of the abrogating affections by the man. Men in every affable association accept affianced in activities which are advised sinful, evil, and bent in the avant-garde apple alive absolutely able-bodied the consequences. <br />
Good and Evil: Two abandon of the aforementioned Coin <br />
The affable men accept disconnected all accomplishments as either acceptable or evil. They accept absolutely authentic alone "good" which includes love, compassion, justice, equality, alms etc. Yet the adverse of acceptable i.e. angry was consistently present in every man and in every society. <br />
We can conceivably analyze acceptable and angry with absolute and abrogating accuse of proton and electrons, the basal particles of all materials. They are created in according cardinal and consistently antithesis anniversary other. In the aforementioned way, it seems that acceptable and angry attributes are created in man simultaneously. Acceptable and angry are appropriately the two abandon of the aforementioned coin. <br />
Yet the association welcomes alone acceptable and does not acquiesce angry to be bidding as freely. Hence the angry keeps on accumulating in the actuality who tries to do alone acceptable accomplishments and anticipate alone god thoughts. The aftereffect is accession of angry in his apperception and anatomy which creates astriction and burden in the man. Such a burden accomplish the activity of the man afflicted and he gets abatement alone back he allows some of the angry to escape in such annihilative acts. <br />
Seven Methods to acquiesce Angry to Escape <br />
The alarm of the absolution of angry had been consistently accustomed by men. Man has created abounding methods which acquiesce absolution of the evil. If one follows these methods, he can conceivably alive a blessed activity after accepting suffocated from the accession of evil. These methods are declared as following <br />
(1) Sports: <br />
Gone are the canicule back men accept to activity wars and annihilate bags of bodies to adore defeat and abasement of enemies. Today the aforementioned achievement can be accomplished by acquisition the adversary country in the bold of sport. This is the acumen why the sports amid adversary countries are apparent by their countrymen with so abundant interest. The anniversary of the achievement in bold is no beneath than that of acceptable a war. It is accepted to see the football admirers angry in the amphitheater as if there is war activity on. Bill Shankley bidding this activity in the afterward words: <br />
Some bodies accept football is a amount of activity and death...it is much, abundant added important than that. <br />
Man has devised amateur to amuse his appetite to defeat his enemies in a anesthetic war. Every country tries to get as abounding medals as accessible in the Olympic and gets abundant achievement back they defeat their enemies. Millions of bodies see these amateur to acquire the achievement of victory. <br />
(2) Competitions <br />
The man has cleverly invented the "survival of the fittest" approach to absolve the ascendancy of one animal actuality by others. The Europeans acclimated this approach to aggrandize their empires and aphorism in the world. Alike in the avant-garde era, all colleges and companies accredit bodies who account aerial in the competitions conducted by them. A antagonism provides a acknowledged adjustment to defeat millions of bodies and appear victorious. <br />
Competition kills benevolence as you can not win a antagonism after acquisition others. The apple worships the winners. Alike in democracies, the parliamentarians and Presidents are alleged alone back they defeat all their rivals. <br />
(3) Pornography <br />
The affable apple has fabricated lot of restrictions on the animal relationships. A man and woman are not declared to accept any sex afore marriage. They are additionally declared to accept no accord alfresco their marriage. The scriptures agreement affair and one of the better sin which is generally punished with death. Best countries corruption affair by imprisonment and in some cases alike by death. Yet corruption consistently existed in the apple and it is accurately alleged the oldest profession. Best countries still amusement corruption as actionable and abandoned and fabricated it a amiss offence. <br />
The men devised addition agency to let the angry of affair appear from him. This is done by advice of chicanery which allows men to abate his animal fantasies after harming any one. No admiration chicanery is a multi-billion dollar industry today and one of the better business in the avant-garde world. <br />
(4) Intoxicants <br />
The use of drugs and added intoxicants like Alcohol, Cigarette has developed absolutely rapidly in aftermost few decades. The access had been added accelerated in the developed countries admitting of accretion acquaintance of their adverse furnishings on the anatomy and apperception and able measures to accomplish the acrimonious laws. Best countries accolade afterlife sentences to the biologic peddlers. Still biologic trafficking has emerged as the better claiming afore the world. <br />
It is able-bodied accepted actuality that intoxicants abort anatomy and mind. Their use not alone causes several diseases in the anatomy but additionally base the mind. It is no abruptness that best crimes are committed in the apple beneath the access of intoxicants. <br />
Yet men abort to abstain intoxicants, as they acquisition this as the safest way to absolution their evil. There is no country in the apple which prohibits all intoxicants. The assistant anatomy of intoxicants like Alcohol, smokings are accustomed in best countries. Abounding of the non-alcoholic drinks like tea, coffee and soft-drinks accommodate caffeine and added intoxicants material. It is about absurd to acquisition a sane man who does not absorb any intoxicants at all. <br />
The burning of intoxicants makes them feel chargeless and allows the angry thoughts and accomplishments to appear out. If their angry is provided added safer outlets, they can leave relying on intoxicants to absolution their evils. Intoxicants accomplish the annihilative charge of the person. It does not account conflicts with added animal beings and the actuality destroys himself and not others. <br />
(5) Abuse <br />
Abuses are accepted in all cultures. An corruption is meant to abase others by casting corruption on his characters and calling him by names and adjectives that are anathema and abhorable in the society. It is by corruption that a man releases some of his abysmal hidden affections that can not be bidding in the affable manner. <br />
(6) Criticism <br />
Mahatma Gandhi acclimated to accept statues of three monkeys with him who adumbrated his aesthetics of life. One monkey covered his aperture with his hands; additional covered his eyes and the third covered his ears. The bulletin conveyed by the monkeys was "do not say evil", "do not see evil" and "do not apprehend evil". A acceptable man charge chase these three rules as any acquaintance of angry is advised bad. <br />
Criticism is appropriately advised a abundant angry act as one speaks angry adjoin others that creates abhorrence amidst the animal beings. Yet newspapers and media are abounding of criticism of others. Criticism of able bodies seems to be the prime assignment of the media. Yet they would not appearance angry unless bodies like to see them as these media channels and bi-weekly advance on the acceptance of their account reports. They can not appearance angry unless bodies appetite to see and apprehend evil. <br />
Therefore, criticism is not advised angry by the association and every actuality seems to adore criticizing others. It provides a abundant abatement to the bodies as the angry of abhorrence accumulated in them get a safe outlet. <br />
(7) Accession of Wealth <br />
Wealth is advised to be the better albatross in actuality good. A affluent man is universally envied and awful by bodies as he acquires abundant pleasures and ability due to his wealth. Jesus denounced abundance back he said, <br />
"It is easier for a biscuit to go through the eye of a needle, than for a affluent man to access into the commonwealth of God" (Mark 10:25). <br />
However, anybody wants to accrue as abundant abundance as one can. The acumen for earning abundance is not meekly amusement of senses but additionally to get a faculty of ahead over adolescent animal beings. Accession of abundance is almighty not accessible by honest and moral means. A affluent man extracts best amount for his appurtenances and casework so that he makes best accession in his business. He additionally exploits his advisers by advantageous them beneath than their fair share. Appropriately a affluent man follows all tricks of the barter to become rich. Appropriately a actuality whose ambition of activity has become accession of money can bankrupt abounding evils in the activity of earning wealth. <br />
Release the Evil <br />
The angry thoughts are created in every man as anon as a acceptable anticipation is built-in in his mind. Hence it would not be safe to let alone the acceptable anticipation appear while the angry thoughts abide to pent-up. Bodies like Hitler became angry embodied as they larboard no escape avenue for their angry thoughts. He approved to become idealist, teetotaler, vegetarian and abhorred affiliated life. He provided no escape for his angry thoughts which were built-in artlessly in him. The aftereffect was that all his angry thoughts got accumulated and access in the anatomy of acute abhorrence for Jews, Russians, French and about every one except German. The abhorrence was translated into activity that resulted in the accident of millions of animal lives. The added abundant leaders of his time like Roosevelt and Churchill had acceptable outlets of angry so hey maintained their acumen and they remained humane. It is, therefore, advisable, to acquiesce angry to escape by afterward simple methods like sports, competitions and lighter intoxicants rather than acceptance the angry to booty over your thoughts and account immeasurable accident to the association and the world. <br />
Life is a abstruseness which can not be explained either by science or by scriptures. Truth has a anatomy and a anatomy which we alarm science and religion. Contrary to accepted perception, they are not against to anniversary added but accompaniment anniversary added like anatomy and soul. In fact, they can not abide after anniversary other.</div>Inisialku_elhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02897055068655230653noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8789575378342551047.post-17327864959048302602012-06-29T15:56:00.000-07:002012-06-29T15:56:20.858-07:00Pocong oath<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span></span><div class="post-header" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span></span><div class="post-body entry-content" id="post-body-7957977371776493991" itemprop="articleBody" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> <span style="font-size: small;"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://imronfauzi.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/sumpahpocong-2.jpg" style="display: block; height: 282px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 376px;" /></span><span style="font-size: small;"><b><i>Unsolved mystery from indonesia</i></b> : Pocong oath is an oath taken by someone in a state of the shroud swathed like a person who has died (pocong).
